Either if its short haul or long haul, I'd take 17.2" width & 32" pitch over 17.5" width & 31" pitch any day. The difference in width is marginal & the extra inch in pitch might allow you to cross legs (For me the ability to do this makes Y flights much more comfortable).

I would prefer 19" width/31" pitch over 17.2"/32". If you calculate 17.2 x 9 / 8 you get to 19.3"....

8 abreast was never going to happen in QF 787's, I will expect similar outrage if QF launch SYD/MEL-LHR with 10 abreast in 777X's.

Perth's my favourite Oz city so no problems transiting or staying the night there.
Found a motel that will pick you up from the airport also for free (incl return drop off).

As for flying Qantas PER-LHR in any class......I'm still strongly in favour of QR,EY,EK when it comes to onboard experience and PRICE. I do however really like the look of Y, I know I like the J product. I don't think they're doing F on this? And I don't know what PE looks like.

So I can't make a decision. I'm thinking price may be the main reason I won't fly QF.
Lounge access is nice but it's not QF's finest at Perth but I really don't mind the main terminal there. Great views of tarmac and I can get my Matso's ginger beer! YUM!! I also quite like the food on offer at the little cafe there. The only reason to go to the lounge is for a glass of wine! Or a shower if you're flying out after work and no time to shower if checked out already. I also don't mind stretching the legs after reaching the middle east stopover.

Good luck to those in Perth, and others who prefer a Perth stop-over in a domestic terminal Vs, say DXB First or Biz lounges. I won't be competing with you for seats!

I would assume that the millions of dollars that are going to be spent on converting the Qantas Domestic terminal in Perth to a combined International/Domestic terminal will include appropriate lounge accommodation for J passengers and other interlopers. I think AJ mentioned that it would be on a par with what QF has in Singapore.

I'm sure QF yield management have done the math. I suspect just not enough J/PE pax

It's very economical and make sense on a flight by flight basis if the airline charges the current J/PE rates, but on a plane with all premium seats - research suggests (some) people like the idea of someone paying more than they did on a flight. This is partially why first class has remained with some airlines, especially in Asia.

I did a full analysis as part of a study on Cathay Pacific (around the time they announced 10 seat across in Y) of the economics of replacing the Y cabin with PE seating. There is a significant loss of revenue per flight unless the standard PE rates were being charged. This study factored in fuel burn, weight, catering, turnaround times, inflgiht services, cargo, crew requirements and more. It all comes down to if you can fill a plane at a premium rate, which is the type of people who would consider flying your airline.

Being Perth based I have to say yes. However, after whingeing so much about ANZ's 787, it would be unlikely that I would fly Y. Hopefully PE may offer something a bit better on this route.

I'm secretly excited about this flight, mainly because it's a data science wet dream.

It will either show how great the analysis was (pax wanting to fly qf, wanting to avoid stopovers), or how correlation and causation were messed up (which could be many factors)

Either way, I'm looking forward to a year of data.

Personally, if travelling solo, I wouldn't take the flight purely based on Emirates being a more attractive option, ESPECIALLY in premium cabins where you have more room to walk around. Plus, I can't imagine the cabin or flight crew would be happy after such a long flight.

Which is still a downgrade for those with WP and above status. This service will need a lot of high status travellers to fly on it as it will need good sales in premium cabins to be successful.

Won't vote at all since the poll needs more options.

Only in Business Class
My thoughts exactly.

Would also depend on whether I was starting/finishing in PER. If my journey still needed a transit stop to get to/from PER then I wold say I am unlikely to use it even in business class. But is I was starting/finishing in PER and travelling in J then it would be an attractive option and then depend on whether I needed more segments for FF status qualification.

I think the AJ comment was about the 'terminal' which seems weird given QF don't do anything with the terminals in HKG/SIN.. He didn't say lounge.

And only 42 business pax plus say 20 Club/Gold/Plat flying PE/Y..
And one flight to SIN and a few/week to AKL just can't see the justification for a standalone lounge.

Will be like ADL with swing gates.

I'm curious. Obviously biggest game changer route in a while. Most people I've spoken to are 50/50.

Ill say yes on the basis I can select my seat at the time of booking and it better be a good seat! I'd probably have a mental breakdown if I got a middle seat at checkin.

The old boarding last and nabbing two/three seats springs to mind with this one.

Is there a middle seat in J ? :)

Well that will be a show stopper for me. There's no way I'm going to transit through an airport where I don't have airside/sterile lounge access.

No. I wouldn't use a non stop AU-EU flight. I fly EU-Asia with a 2-10 day stop/s before going back to AU.

Honestly, what difference does it make? Did just that in ADL a couple of months ago and it really is no big deal. So few people going through immigration it isn't a big deal at all. You get called from the lounge just before boarding, go through immigration and walk on board. Painless experience, even more so with an e-passport.

It's somewhat psychological having the comfort that I've cleared immigration and I'm free to leave the country; although I guess the feds could pull me off the plane anytime until takeoff. Proximity of the lounge to the international gates will come into play also. If I understand correctly, the new international section will be at the south of the T3/T4 complex whereas the two existing QF lounges are at the north.

I also like the feeling of departing from a proper international terminal, it has got a real buzz to it, whereas an domestic terminal doesn't really excite me.
Anyway I'm willing to try this service at least once to make up my mind, however the main deal breaker is no F lounge and probably a crowded and underwhelming Dom J lounge when compared with a international J lounge .
