We also have an investment property which still has a mortgage. That also is contributing to the equation. We will probably sell it in the next 12 months so maybe that might help.
Perhaps, yeah.
My dad has 3 investment properties, and the home he lives in, all fully paid off, a great credit record, is retired and has plenty of savings and was rejected, go figure.
He just wanted a new CC for the FF points and included international travel insurance.

Unfortunately, all banks care about is serviceability (Income less expenses/repayments).

Even if your mortgage was on the home stretch - say less than $100k remaining and you're paying off $5k per month the banks will assess your application based on those outgoings of $5k per month.

In Asian countries they let you "pledge" a TD with them eg if you want a $10k limit credit card, you set up a term deposit with them of $10k. It's a shame they don't do it here.

Well, a pleasant surprise in my inbox today with VFF extending my Silver status for another year even though I was about 20 SC's short. I was fully expecting to complete the sad slide from Platinum to Red at the end of this month. On top of the program changes, life circumstances changed a lot over the last 24 months, as did tactics with family pooling to support my partner to retain Gold as a minimum.

I'd resigned myself to the VFF game being over (and it is a game - we should all remember that) and switching to other games like upgrade options and feeling free to book a broader range of airlines internationally. I think that will still be the case even with the extension of Silver, but if circumstances change again, at least I am a step closer to the benefits of Gold.

All in all, a nice surprise.

Not really step closer to Gold next year as you'll have to earn 500SC not just the 400SC to requalify.

Unless your referring to having SC sitting in your account before they expire aiming to qualify within the year.

Another nice email here - maintained Plat despite being 150 SC short...
Had you got to your review period? I'm up for review in Feb, and unless something changes, I'm going to fall short (on the new rules).
