Having severed ties with British Airways & coming under siege from Oneworld carriers hostile to its Emirates partnership
Qantas will inevitably question whether continuing with the OneWorld alliance is worthwhile
I have been told that British Airways is planning to sever ALL of its code shares with Qantas if not already?
When Qantas dumped British Airways for the Emirates partnership it is clear the empire began to draw up its plans to strike back

I think Their is a prolonged annoyance from other OneWorld members over the QF/EK Partnership
and I think this will lead to trouble re QF OW membership?
Lets hope not? only time will tell.....

Why would there be, given other members of OneWorld are also partnering with EK, heck AA partners with both EK and EY, throw them out I say ;)

I think it would be better if there were more partnerships within oneworld, such as the existing AA/BA/IB/AY, AA/JL, QF/AA and BA/AY/JL deals, but other oneworld members partner with EK and other non oneworld members (eg, JL partners with EK and KE).
BA may be pissed off that QF ended their JSA early to tie up with EK, but there were already cracks appearing between BA and QF before the EK deal was announced (ie, issues with Qantas Club members getting lounge access in LHR)

Can you please provide credible verifiable evidence of the "siege".
Can you please provide credible verifiable evidence of QF severing ties with BA.
(Hint 1: you still can get QF points on BA/IB flights, just like other OW airlines.
Hint 2: As QF have codeshares with BA from LHR listed in the current timetable you should tell the BA management QF have severed ties with BA)

QF have I in the past had codeshares/partnership with SAA & Air France, both members of other alliance’s.
(Hint 3: SAA, AF and/or QF did not leave their main alliance a result of this)

The OP is a CL so he may have heard it from some one in the know behind the smokey door.

Are you high?

No seriously, can I have some of whatever you're taking.

Firstly, I can find no decent, credible sources for your supposition. Secondly, every airline in the known universe has alliances with unaligned carriers.

Thirdly, if there is any issues with the QF/EK alliance, it is entirely of their own making. Both BA and CX have had the opportunities to build a good traffic relationship with QF. Neither of these carriers played nice, and paid lip service to whatever was in place, to their own detriment. And QF/AA seems to be ok at the moment.

The number of strategic partnerships only adds to *O IMHO.
The problem I have with oneworld members being able to have partners/codeshares outside oneworld is that you can't use those flights on (most) oneworld tickets. Might help if more oneworld marketed, non oneworld operated flights were useable on xONEx's, xASnn's etc.

The OP could also just be saying that on their profile. With the lack of anything else to suggest that status, I doubt it.

How did the CX/QF relationship get as bad as it appears? They used to have a codeshare on HKG-FCO, but other then that, what did either party attempt to work together? Any reason QF didn't try to partner with CX to set up Jetstar HK?

It's no worse than the BA/CX partnership. On British-based FF sites, everyone constantly moans about how BA and CX have a dreadful relationship! (So it seems the common element is actually CX, whose commitment to OW has always been a bit patchy ....)

There is absolutely no-one in QF doing anything of the sort. Anyone with even the most basic understanding of QF's business plan knows the QF's international business revolves around two key planks - membership of OW (for the American/Asian network) and the EK alliance (for UK, Europe and Middle East).

OW membership is also vital for QF domestic - all the internal flights for OW members from UK, USA, etc.

Where QFi makes most of its money is the American routes - for which OW membership is its key asset. There is more chance of Richard Branson marrying Alan Joyce in outer space than there is of QF leaving OW.

Why would oneworld risk losing their Australian domestic presence, they have that advantage over Skyteam and Star Alliance

Also remember that BA, AA, JL and to a lesser extent AY and maybe some other OW airlines, have a lot of their codes on QF domestic/Int flights, even on the Sydney - Gold Coast route, BA now has a code on the QF flight. So things can't be that bad...

The new LAX lounge will be jointly owned by Qantas, BA and Cathay...

Qatar has recently switched its lounge access agreements over to QF lounges in MEL and PER, MH has closed its Sydney lounge and switched over to QF lounge, at face value you don't see much, but when you dig you'll actually see a lot value is generated from being in OW, either from Codeshares on dom/int flights, lounge revenue, points revenue and overseas pax choosing to fly QF when they visit Australia because they are OW elites of other airlines.

They won't be asked to leave, and they won't leave of their own accord. BA / QF's spat is simply that. I doubt that any airline would have entered into an alliance which prohibited them from forming they're own agreements with airlines outside that alliance.

OW is nothing more than an agreement to provide FF perks / interline and other pax services in a somewhat consistant way across all airlines involved. There is also a pre-existing relationship setup which can be leveraged for investments (eg the OW lounge at TBIT)

It is not something which dictates the operation of the airline business itself, and I suspect that certain regulators around the world might have actually put a stop to airline alliances had they dobe such a thing. (Anti competitice behaviour)

Yes, but clever competitor airlines, within the alliance, are using this relationship to entice QF's customers off QF flights and onto their own metal.

Qantas has responded to this by reducing QFF point and status earn rates, across the offending OW competitors.

However, if this does not have the desired effect, I expect QF would withdraw from oneworld. (And maintain strategic partnerships with numerous airlines, some of which continue in oneworld, in a similar way to what Virgin does.)

CX and QF have never really got on, probably due to their history where CX was a partner with Ansett, the fracas over JQ HKG is opening old wounds.

Then again, if there is anyone in this world who could pull off a space wedding it would be Mr Branson. :D
