VA does alliances/partnerships terribly in my opinion, I'm by no means saying that QF is perfect! But from reports in the VA forum (and my own personal experience in the past) suggest every different partner of VA has different rules, some are not integrated properly or at all ie status not passed on, airline partners not knowing who VA is, lounge access problems, and so on. I have heard Delta is better in these respects but still there are some problems.

OW is quite robust in the fact that it is consistent with its rules, benefits and proper integration between airlines, I also include EK in this statement they have integrated them quite well. When I fly QF or a OW airline, I generally don't need to look up benefits I just know what I am going to get, there are no discrepancies, (only one I can think of is QR Doha Premium Terminal First lounge access, but I have read this is now fixed with the opening of the new Airport).

OW alliance works despite all the competitive nature of its members. I have never had an issue with any OW flights - and in fact have experienced times when OW partners have gone out of their way to assist. The OW network is what makes QF worthwhile because of the shared benefits derived from status.

That's a different kettle of fish, that's QFF's doing (or un-doing you may say) not OW, I'm specially talking about OW rules and benefits.

I think it remains to be seen how 'fixed' it will be.

My understanding is whilst there are first and business class lounges available to one world members at Hamad International Airport where appropriate, the 'real' first and business class the Al Safwa and Al Mourjan lounges are only available to first and business class travellers respectively.

Yes, but clever competitor airlines, within the alliance, are using this relationship to entice QF's customers off QF flights and onto their own metal.

Other airlines don't need to entice QF customers off QF flights. QF management does that for them.

Qantas has responded to this by reducing QFF point and status earn rates, across the offending OW competitors.

Which just shows that QF management doesn't understand what the real issue is.

My perspective on this is biased (narrow?) because OW for me is predominantly a means via which I can regularly burn FF points on RTW awards - I've made a hobby of trying to string together the best J award trips. No doubt others will see the situation through different eyes but, as I see it, the "problem", if there is one, is not about airlines leaving OW; the bigger question is whether pax start deserting OW en masse because the airlines are stripping much of the usefulness out of the OW offerings.

The news of the recent AA / US merger probably had many people salivating at the prospect of far more diversity of availability all over the USA because of US moving from *A to OW. But instead the award availability has been decimated in the past 2 -3 months. Flights that were routinely available at the start of this year are now virtually impossible to get. Want to book a milesaver award on one of the multiple daily direct flights from LAX to JFK up to 11 months in advance (Y or J)? No problems says AA...........but you'll have to go via DFW, MIA or ORD. WTF?

Now you can't even get a Y ticket from LAS - LAX on any of the multiple flights on any Sunday or Monday over the next 11 months - but we're happy for you to go via PHX and turn a 1 hr flight into a 6 hr odyssey! Want to fly Y from DFW - LAX ? Sorry, you'll have to go via PHX for that too but we've made sure the connection times don't really work just to discourage you a bit more so you'll give up on trying to use AA for award flights altogether. Want to fly CDG - PHL next April/May - that'll be fine but you'll have to leave your wife in Paris to get the next day's flight because we're now only releasing one J seat on virtually all trans Atlantic flights - and don't expect us to release another one because that ain't gonna happen either.

If they make the system too hard to use ppl will just walk away.....

Hopefully the new LAX lounge, carrying the co-branding of QFs two OW 'frenemies' is a good indicator of QFs future commitment to the alliance!

It didn't take them too long to get out of the arrangement with BA in SIN and HKG though.

SIN was easy - the lounges were already split and the new QF one was being built - as for HKG - i was there a month back and te BA lounge (old J lounge downstairs) still had Qantas on it too..

don't forget the main QF lounge at T3 LHR is actually a BA lounge....

Qantas is good for Oneworld and as can be seen other Oneworld airlines treat Qantas elites as if they were their own.

In saying that I am not confident current Qantas management will not make a stupid move away form Oneworld.
