So 2 days ago I purchased a light fare for $119 from Sydney to Gold Coast, now today I just checked the exact same flight is $79 for a choice fare. Seems really weird, especially since the flight is still 3 weeks away. I'm assuming there's nothing I can do do about it now though

$79 choice fare on that route is a Rex price match. Check Rex out they would have dropped the price or released a sale fare etc.

Virgin is still playing that game around matching Rex fares.

Not sure why you find this 'weird'. Just dynamic pricing in action.

It’s annoying when that happens, but there’s not much you can do about it except be philosophical and understand that, on balance, you’ll still save way more money than you lose by booking as far out from the flight as possible.

Yeah, unfortunately you’ve just gotten an average roll of the dice on this one, and given it’s a lite fare there’s not really anything to be done. Between price matches, sales, and dynamic pricing, though, you could’ve rolled much worse or only slightly better, so while the $40 difference is a bummer, it might be best in this case to write it off and hope to save on the next one.

Experienced exactly the same for this weekend and for a trip i booked for a month away. The one in Feb now 1/2 the price i paid.
