I transit DFW often and as a WP I often wonder why there is no Flagship lounge located there.

There are FL's at JFK ,LAX ,ORD & I think LHR...yes I realise that QF7 & 8 are only Y, Y+ and J configured but is it just a competition reason i.e. no need or something else?

With DFW along with ORD being the main AA Hubs, I would have expected a need for a FL at DFW as well.

I have visited the FL's at JFK , LAX & ORD and while there is no comparison to the QF, CX or BA First lounges the FL's are certainly a step up from the Admirals clubs

Thoughts?

I think it comes down to the type of long-haul international flights AA operates from the port. In the case of DFW, its a major domestic hub. While it does have some 777 service (with F cabin) to some European ports, paying F passengers ex DFW to Europe does not seem to be a major focus of DFW. I also suspect it has a lot to do with competition. There is little competition for long-haul premium travel ex-DFW from other carriers, while they compete head-to-head with UA (and many others) at ORD, LAX, JFK.

It's a very good question, and one that I've thought about too. It may have something to do with there being less international flights out of DFW compared to other flagship locations.

On another note, I actually don't mind the Admiral's club at Terminal D, particularly for QF8. I've been asked a couple of times whether I was aware of the Qantas "lounge" closer to the departure gate. Always indicate that I prefer the Admiral's club instead to the AAngels astonishment. At that time of night the place is practically empty and there is always a free shower. That is compared to the shared lounge that is always packed. If you're keen to get a couple of beers, just ask for more vouchers at the front desk!

There used to be one in A but was closed sometime around International Departures moving to D.

The question often comes on the AA FT forum, but the simple answer is "Competition" (or lack thereof from DFW). FWIW, there would be no Flagship at LAX if not for Qantas paying for much of the construction.

There are more AA International flights that have an F cabin out of DFW than LAX or ORD.But the only other airlines that offer International flights out of DFW are BA,QF,EK,KA,LH with KLM offering only a seasonal service to AMS.So there just is no competition.

No competition...that's the commercial world we live in.

I actually really liked the Terminal A AC. (I rarely eat in the lounge). The showers here are amazing, also a gym if you're up for a workout pre-flight.
The QF Lounge is cramped ++ with a pretty average drink selection.

I was shocked by the "flagship" lounge at ORD - it is a very small area at the end of one other terminals / piers with no showers - I was told to go to the main AC. I have been in the LAX and JFK flagships as well, but really they are not to be rated at all by international standards. Of course the alcohol and food selection is a little better.

How well equipped is the gym?

I will check it out today interesting to know

As the others said, the lack of international competition at DFW means it isn't required.
