Hi, I was trying to look for a Qantas classic award flight from Hong Kong to Melbourne in Dec 2019. Not sure why, but I could see ONLY economy seats available for the whole Dec 2019. I could see Business and Premium Economy seats available in earlier months. I wonder if the upper flight classes are being made available later than Economy now? I am pretty sure when I checked the same thing last week, I could see lots of Business and Premium Economy seats available for Dec 2019 (but not the right date for me). Also quite sure it is not because they are all fully booked as it is the same when I checked flights from other cities. Does anyone have an idea why?

Unless you have high status Qantas Business or Premium Economy award seats are only available about 297 days out. I had the same problem booking for return flights from Singapore for Oct '19. They are now booked.

December isn’t fully out yet.

I see, thanks. The system must have been wrong last week then. Can't complain if this is the rule.

As a Plat I can see Bus, Prem Econ for Dec 2019, but only up until 17 Dec, when the black out period cuts in. As the others have said, if you're lower status you won't see them for a while.

I know, but it just looked strange to me that there was not a single non-economy seat for the whole Dec.
I’m tracking some award flights for December too and I have access to the premium seats and they all looked a bit weird today. Completely different to what I saw yesterday. So much so that I started checking prices.

Thanks all for the info! I guess I will just patiently wait for the countdown to 297 days.

Or look on for awards through partner airlines.
I do pay attention to flights with other partner airlines (especially CX) shown the Qantas search tool too. Did you mean anything else? I think I cannot book award flights with CX directly using my Qantas points?

If they show up you can book them. I’m currently looking at Qatar, Royal Jordanian, and Emirates for my trip. I’d love to fly CX but the only flight is too early for me. It’s a great connection for what I want though.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Though QF are obviously playing games for December.
We are taking the grandkids to Fiji this Christmas coming.Classic awards in Y and J are available up until December 12th.I have been watching every day for 4 days now as our preferred date is December 21 which became available this morning. But each day as soon as the seats are released there are no classic awards but Y seats available at 55900 points for the 0605 FJ flight and 68000-89000 for the 2 flights between 1300-1400.Normal classic award 18000 points.
Now mrsdrron doesn't have enough points for 5 at 55900 but could buy the shortfall for just under $1500.Buying the 5 Y tickets is $1696.Guess who are going to earn points and SCs this Christmas.

We managed to get J awards but out of SYDNEY on Boxing Day on CX. But only to HK and there were no CX on offer to the final destination. Very few Qantas flights up to their current release date. There has been nothing from ADELAIDE after Christmas Day despite CX and QR being released. Accessing through WP account.

The Qantas rep yesterday said we should call to get some released and this far out would likely be successful. Mrs.dr.ron should call to get at least a couple released.

CX appear to have very limited availability for J award seats ex HKG to Australia. I think that might be a newish change :(

Been happening since June since they made significant changes to their Asia Miles frequent flyer program.

Folks of COURSE there will be limited availablility around one of the busiest times of year ie pre and post Christmas. I don't call i playing games so much as basically expecting to sell the seats (or in the case of the Fiji avail, FJ limiting avail).

Why give it away* when you can sell it for a higher yield?

(* obviously not given the points charge, fees etc)
