Working in sales (the guys that get everything because we are so cool) for a large global FMCG company, travel rules are All flights less than 4hrs Economy. Anything More J. Also, no low cost carriers without approval or it being a dire call tiger and jetstar don't even appear in our booking tool!

Local VP's get Business all the time.
Global/Regional VP's First where avail.
Global Board and CEO have a private jet!

Hotel rooms arent to be shared. Too much of a HR risk in sales party land.

In a typical Turner style of speaking he said something like he could think of nothing worse than being locked away in a room on your own.
And it can't be much better locked away in a room with someone that is the complete opposite.

No thanks.

Microsoft also require staff to travel Y, even long haul. Personally I think it's ludicrous to expect staff to step off a long haul flight and be productive at work the same day if they've travelled Y.
In my case, the Y-only travel policy officially stated that you are entitled to a "recover" day. And in general that means overnight before you needed to front to an office for work. But in practice, I have fronted for work the same day as arrival, but that is an exception and probably more my choice than an expectation. I have chosen to meet up with local work colleagues for lunch, dinner or drinks on the day of arrival after travel to USA or Europe from Australia, but have not been expected to step off a long haul flight and be productive at work the same day.

Similarly for flights to Asia I always try to travel outbound on day-time flights, arrive in the evening and get some sleep before heading to the office. Southbound is now much more difficult, but when in my home town I work from home, so I can be flexible regarding working after arriving home on an overnight flight.

The problem with this policy is they are saving their money and seeming fair, but at the same time keeping you away from any family for even longer. I'm sure they get most people doing what you do and not electing to stay the extra night.

Yep, basically you are paying for your company's cheapness with your own time. Completely unfair.

Yes, there are problems with the policy. But that is what it is. Not negotiable except through resignation and seeking another job. If you want the job, then that is the policy. If you don't like it, don't travel or find another job.

Of course. Just pointing it out for those who suggest that Y with a night after is just as good, esp for those considering a job with such a policy.

Not my cup of tea!

Amazon's customer service is absolutely brilliant though.

Our business policy is Flying Y too - our customers pay for travel and we try reduce their costs. ;)

Room sharing - not on although usually flying solo anyways.

Is it OK if I buy BioFreeze from them?
Amazon service is really good and for a company that makes bugger all profit their performance on delivery is first class.

If they deliver it to Australia and it's not on our banned list. :p. If they dont deliver it to Australia you could always use a third party mailer like myus.com. Just make sure you don't order it in aerosol form.

I will check the banned list before I put it into a container. It is over 12 months since my last shipment as we went 32 ounce pump action dispensers as our warehouse staff love getting rid of aches for a few hours.

Pump should be ok. Is it any good? Must be, I guess. :p

BioFreeze is pretty good for freezing an ache that's for sure. It lasts for about 6 hours in most cases and you have to use warm soapy water to get it off your hands after you apply it.
Don't get it into your eyes nor any special bits.

I saw something very similar at Woolies yesterday in Carnegie, in the medical aisle. Can't remember the brand name, but looked at it closely as I hadn't seen it before (and was stocking up on medical supplies for holiday leaving Wednesday, I seem to have got to the age where travelling overseas involves half a suitcase full of prescription and non-prescription medications). It did exactly what you describe - freezes an ache.

ETA: I think it was this: ICE GEL | Mentholatum
