Slightly OT, off to Tassie this week, any recommendations re Hellyers Rd produce ?

I have only tried their "original" (a bottle of it) and while it was ok I prefer the Glenmorangie original. I like the Sullivan's Cove more but am far from someone to be offering advice about whisky. I have only tried the latter at local events like Taste Tasmania and Agfest, I have not actually bought any of their product yet. If you call into Hellyers road Distillery door you can taste all of their offerings (for a price) and then decide if you like any of theirs. Their cafe restaurant used to be pretty good for lunch and they do distillery tours as well.

Do people get enjoyment out of drinking scotch?

My favourites

- Dimple
- Glenfiddich
- Johnnie Walker

Don't normally drink spirits but tried a couple of drams of Johnnie Walker Blue Label on EK two months ago. Was loverly.

Only 4 at present:

Glenmorangie 10yo for myself and selected guests
Glenfiddich 12yo for more general consumption
JW Double-Black for a blended whisky
Old Inverness (blend - with maybe one serving left, but an old favourite and I don't want to let it go)

Shrek's the whisky drinker at our place (I have been known to mix mine with lemonade   )
He currently has
Glenfiddich (presumably for a regular tipple)
10 yr old Ardbeg
18 yr old Highland Park

If there's any better stuff than that it must be hidden :p

My collection always has a bit of a story attached. 4 1/2 years of uni in Scotland equates to many a whisky trail across the Highlands.

Highland Park- used to prefer the 18 yr old but purchased the 21 yr old recently...nectar. The Orkney Islands whisky trail was were we encountered the rampant ram who had probably consumed 1 too many a wild magic mushroom. Rutting contests with hire cars was a bad move!!

Knockando- Speyside and close encounter with the boys in blue whilst tickling a few salmon

Lagavulin- Islay at is best, the king of malts. Just good memories of the Port Ellen B+B, peat water baths and bacon butties for breakfast.

I've given up buying JW red for the "special" visitors and save them the trouble by stocking the premixed version with coke in a can!!!
