Wow, I miss my old 5110, what I would give for another, good loud ring and speakers, and never missed a beat, my blackberry gets at best a day of battery life, worst I've had it was dead after a few hours

YES! I found my old 5110. Charged up and ready to go. Box, spare battery, charger, owners manual - everything that came with the phone.
PM me if you would like it.... Free to a good home.

I was doing a clean up a little while ago at work and found a car kit for one of those handsets...

How long does your phone take to start up? My Galaxy S2 takes a good two minutes from turning it on to being able to send a text. I always send a text home on landing back in SYD which is why I know how long it takes.

I've noticed people with Iphones seem to have their phones up and running as soon as the announcement is made that you can use your phones (and even before if the announcement is delayed). Is this because they start up very quickly or that most Iphone users (that I observe) don't turn their phones off?

A lot of people just put there phones into flight mode and not actually turned off.

A lot of people don't even bother with flight mode - I sad next to some AFL coaches who were not only emailing but one also took a phone call during the saftey demonstration & take-off.

I just timed my iPhone 5. From switched off, it took 47 seconds to start up (and ask for my pass code).

Anything quicker than that and the phone wasn't off.

Just timed my i phone 5 and it was just over 40 seconds until ready to use.

It is a 16Gb with not a lot in the memory at all.

S2 - From initial button press off to PIN was T+33 seconds, after pin x 2 (Sim and Phone) to memory scan completed in another 20 seconds.

Textabilty at T+60 seconds.

I would hazard a guess that 2 minutes seems a bit long. My iPhone 4S is about a minute. Perhaps you have lots of apps running or minimal storage space left.

I have a nexus 4, which I've been very happy with after coming from a 3GS. The wireless charging is the unexpected surprise benefit - it's much more useful than I ever thought it would be.

Lumia 920 34 Mississippis to open including PIN code unlock. Android and iOS smoked by Window Phone. #Fanboy

That is because Windows(tm) is used to being frequently shut down and started up again. ;)

You obviously haven't used the most modern phone OS! That said, I would never fly a plane running Windows, or Mac OS, for that matter. I am still traumatized by the lift where I used to work having the Windows 95 monochromatic orange screen of death. Lift still worked.

I think it might be the various apps on the home screen that slow it down. I could move some of them and see if it makes a difference.

I can never get over how ubiquitous Iphones appear to be. I would think at least 80% of women between about 20 and 60 have them. Much lower (but still relatively high) % among blokes. Walk along a railway platform and see how many you see. On planes you see a lot more Blackberrys I've noticed as a lot of companies still insist on them.

From anecdotal evidence (on the inner Melbourne tram route I use to and from my CBD office, I estimate 70-80% of all passengers have an iphone, including me), I suspect Apple has a much higher market share in Australia than elsewhere in the world (I would guess in the vicinity of 50%). Maybe Simo could advise, since he is a telco dealer!

I previously had iphones my last was the 5 which i then sold to go to the Galaxy S4, best decision I have ever made, I have just recently upgraded to the S5 and would never consider going back to an iphone. Love the freedom that android gives you compared to ios

Interesting - I have a good friend who also recently changed to Galaxy - he lasted a month before buying an iPhone 5S and ditching his Samsung. Exactly what freedom do you refer to here please Astro?

Well one example is whenever I want to transfer any kind of data from a computer ie: photos, music etc it is just plug n play. No need for iTunes!

OK I understand how that works - how do you guys find the back-up process / software updates etc?
