Executive Lounge question :

A long time friend wants to shout 4 of her nearest and dearest to an overnighter in Melbourne for her 70th birthday (can see you all putting your hands up here to be a bestie!)
Last time we did this, stayed at Park Hyatt but they do not have an Executive Lounge now.
Looking for thoughts on Hilton Melbourne Little Queen or other hotels that you feel may offer a better experience.
Pullman Melbourne on Swanston gets positive reviews.

I have experienced Grand Hyatt, Pan Pacific, Sofitel, Pullman on the Park and Langham, but all pre covid - appreciate your insight.

Hilton Little Queen Executive Lounge serves its purpose… but in no way worthy of a special visit.

Not many lounges in the Hh system are worth it, and non in Aus.
I’d consider Sofitel maybe.
TBH I’d prefer a nice dinner with the difference in cost.

Agree. The best Hilton lounge in Australia is Sydney and even there the food is pretty basic and alcohol is cheap. Exec lounges are nice place for me to hang out when traveling solo for business but when on holiday a nice dinner outside is preferable.

Best lounge in Melbourne IMHO is Pan Pacific South Wharf.

Quality must have improved a lot under the new management as it was very average during the Hilton days. I still doubt it’s better than Grand Hyatt and Langham.

Don’t ever visit a US exec lounge then!

Actually have been to quite a few lounges in many continents that were just beer and wine. The spirits in Sydney (and I think most other Australian lounges) are at least the branded house spirits you’d find at most bars.

The fact you can get hot food and spirits I think puts the lounges in the top 25% at least.

Sofitel lounge is at least an order of magnitude better then the Hilton one in Melbourne. My only gripe with it is those TVs. Just ruins the ambiance.

I think a lot comes down to how many people get access to the lounge. Bit of a function of affordability of staying at the hotel, and how many people get access (outside of payingfor it). My experience is that the chains that keep a lid on access have better lounges.

Another stay at Sofitel and the lounge isn’t bad but was utter chaos on ANZAC Day. We returned from the football ad went to the lounge at around 1830 and it was bursting at the seems and told that we would have to wait if we wanted a table. As a Diamond I voiced my thoughts and was told that we could sit in the Atrium bar and they would serve our drinks there FOC and also staff came up to Atrium bringing the canapés and plates of snacks. At 7 when the free alcohol session finished the lounge emptied out and we were invited in for sweets and coffee but also the kind staff allowed us to have some more drinks on the house. I had never seen it so busy previously

Which was of course a former Hilton lounge…. Although, the couple of times I made it there as a diamond I was shocked how busy it could get - despite being large.
