Which LHR lounge for QF Platinum?

How different is the LHR EK lounge compared to their "normal" lounges in Australia or other parts of the world (not talking about DXB F)?

Fairly standard EK lounge. Ordinary decor, good food, decent wine. Food, as usual for EK, a notch above typical J lounges (and better than the BA F lounge in T3).

I assuming you're talking about T3.

I used to live in London and my vote goes for the BA F lounge. The EK lounge is ok, lots of buffet food (more choice than the BA F lounge where food is generally a al carte) but the BA lounge is usually quieter and has a better magazine selection.

I tried them both several times last year, and the BA lounge is quieter and the wine was particularly good one visit - but it feels run down now, and the food was actually pretty awful compared to the EK lounge.

So if you're hungry, EK. If you want peace and quiet, then BA for sure.

So, to confirm, if I'm travelling F on QF metal I can access the Emirates lounge? The QF website doesnt say so, comments earlier in this thread imply that I can!

You most certainly can. I've done it twice, Shrek once and I'll be doing it again next month as the EK lounge is much closer to the gates QF usually use.

In LHR now and I decided to go to the EK lounge first. The checkout person advised that it was recently refurbished and I rate the EK lounges in Singapore and Dubai - so I thought it was an easy choice. First impressions were really good. It's spacious and light and has a nice variety of seating. The food however was a major disappointment. Granted it was mid-morning and quiet, but the selection of hot food had been sitting under hot lamps way too long and I'm not convinced baked beans with a dried crust and dried out scrambled egg are a winning option. The wines were OK, and the Veuve Champagne was there, but there was nothing that made me want to stay. I am now sitting in the T3 BA Flounge enjoying a great bacon sandwich and washing it down with a 2006 Taittinger. Definitely a better experience on leaving the UK. The red wines are good too and I'll have to be careful not to have too much before my flight to MEL.

I was a little underwhelmed by the T3 Flounge the last time I flew through, but that was just a few weeks after the catering contract had been changed to a new provider. All seems good and well organised. Only downside is that the Elemis Spa is for BA customers only now.

Does this make yours the very first review of the new EK lounge in LHR? I've been struggling to find a review or even confirm that the EK lounge had reopened.

Re: LHR lounge for QF Platinum

...I think Princess Fiona and I are saying the same thing. The BA F lounge is the best of the OW (OneWorld) Lounges. I can't comment on the EK lounge because I have not used it. :)

I'm back through LHR in mid Oct with QF in J, so might give a go to gaining access to the EK Lounge.

We flew QF10 in F last year and were not only allowed to enter the Emirates lounge at Heathrow T3 pre-takeoff, we were basically told to go there, instead of the BA lounge, by the staff at Qantas check-in. Thought it was allright, but as has been said before, Emirates lounges seem to be very formulaic and a bit boring. Except for the F lounge at Dubai which I like a lot.

Cheers

Slightly off topic, but what lounge would people recommend for a business class flyer with Qantas at Heathrow? It shows the only options as the BA or AA lounges? And at Dubai, is there just the one lounge? Thanks in advance :)

You could also use the CX lounge. Not sure what the rules are now with the EK lounge at Heathrow.

As to which lounge, frankly I think it is personal taste. I've used the BA lounge countless times and it was more than fine.

I've also used the CX and AA lounges a few times and also found them fine. Pluses and minuses in each.

In DXB the EK lounge is the most realistic option as it is the only lounge in the piers that Qantas and EK operate from. BA is the only OneWorld airline with their own lounge and thats in a different terminal/pier.

I am sitting in the EK lounge now after coming from BA First. Don't bother at all with the BA lounge! terrible service, food and is looking run down. EK lounge is brand new great staff good buffet and the view is better.

Re: LHR lounge for QF Platinum

Hi there,

I'll be flying NCE-LHR-DXB in J at the end of this month. As a QFF WP, can anyone confirm if I have access to both the BA Flounge and EK Lounge at LHR, if my LHR-DXB flight is on a QF flight number but on EK metal? And, if so, what would you recommend?

Thanks in anticipation :p

You can only access the EK lounge at LHR as you are on an EK flight.
It's perfectly acceptable and has recently been renovated so it doesn't resemble the 1970's tan leather set from Starsky and Hutch vibe.

Thanks Princess Fiona,

I really appreciate that. As for Starsky and Hutch, I'd happily swap a J or even F seat on any airline for the Ford GT (not to mention the Huggy Bear wide brimmed hat!).
