Which is the best airline to fly from Australia to Bali?

The GA and JQ early flights at least have you by the pool at your hotel by early afternoon. The late evening arrivals… you’ve lost a whole day. What’s the point?

Coming back, VA offers good daytime options. Check out at the regular time from your hotel… no need to pay for an extra day or beg for late checkout. And home in bed by that night.
From Perth there are about 10 flights a day in peak...so arrival and departure times are certainly of choice! (All LCC naturally)!

We have far better flights with MH ex ADL and actually prefer them over SQ. Have found that a decent way to get to Bali.
I just checked ex ADL MH flights.

The problem is still the ADL arriving into KUL after the 2 Mh flight a day KUL- DPS departs from KUL requiring a significant layover - maybe 17hrs
The layover in the return is better though

I would not do SQ from ADL as both legs require an overnight layover even though the layover is somewhat shorter than MH 7 hrs each way

We love both Singapore and KL so don’t mind doing a 2-3 night stay at either. We nearly always go to Bali with a group of friends and they always fly direct on the weekend so we normally leave a few days before them and time it to get to Bali the same day

Ah yes. But hard to justify a direct flight in 3 hours for 800 dollars against a SQ route via SIN for 4,000 dollars in J. SQ are about 900 dollars return down the back for the route on around 11 hours.

As I said, Award flights :) QF wanted something like $1,200 for one-way from MEL when I went to book.

SQ catering is limited.

What?

Lounges crowded. Beds with minuscule footwells.

Lounges weren't crowded but after a pit stop I went for a walk at Changi. A350-9 footwells much better than the older, you-need-to-contort beds and mine were day flights anyway.

Annoying seat belt policy.

Not in my 4 most recent flights Aust-SIN-Aust

Surely you are not saying a QF or VA B737 medium haul is a better experience than a A350-9 on SQ?

Limited catering with a single, no-choice, cold, fish-based entree. Mains, you can book the cook, but the actual menu is pretty mundane.

You had good luck with the seat belt policy, on my last two flights it went on with the slightest bump. And stayed on, suspending all hot drinks service (a problem on an overnight flight where you want a coffee with breakfast).

QF/JQ/VA are what I would consider short haul to Bali. It only become medium-haul if flying via SIN :D Although I wouldn’t take VA for Bali given the lack of any inflight service and problems with wifi and IFE.

As someone who’s well over 6 foot, even the a350 seats aren't great :(

Saving grace is the SQ cabin crew. But worth 12 hours against 5.5? I dunno. For me, the QF or GA a330s would be preferable, even in the main cabin!

Agreed. Especially coming back. Either it’s an overnight or you’ve got to get up really early to take the 7:20am flight out of Bali.
Recently I flew DPS-ADL with a departure time of 10:15 am so it wasn't too bad even though I was staying at Ubud. I even made it for my connecting ADL-BNE flight on a separate booking.

Does SQ fly to DPS from T2?

We recently had the misfortune to fly SQ whY SIN to SAI ex T2. The KF Gold Lounge (accessed with my newly minted LH Senator card via ITA SM) was a shoebox…We accidentally got to the airport later than originally planned but lucky we didn’t rush just for the lounge…😔

Yes, the SK (and F) lounges have got better post the refurbs but they can also get very busy.

Does SQ fly to DPS from T2?

My MEL-SIN and SIN-DPS were both T2. I went to the lounge there, but as you say, its a poor lounge, so I took ~10 mins to get to the T3 lounge. Did some laptop stuff, then moved on.

Award flight Vs ~$1,200, I would say yes :) . We can disagree on the rest (and of course there is wifi on the SQ flights for those who want it), but I would definitely do it again.
