Which is the best airline to fly from Australia to Bali?

Well they do more than double the travel time. Bali to me is barely further than Perth from Melbourne. I do get the attractiveness of long days in J class but my Bali trips are usually short breaks of 5 days and the JQ daytime flights make sense
I agree. Never been to Bali before and certainly did consider ex PER via SIN but in truth from PER flight can be done in not much over 3 hours and with the Jetstar max price still only around 600 dollars return kind of reckon it's worth a pop. It will.be first time on Jetstar also!! 🤭

Of course but I was referring to Bne to Bali where we have to do a double flight anyway unless we fly on Virgin which I will not do to Bali since they bumped me as a full fare paying passenger from J to economy, not even economy X, to permit 2 people to get a free upgrade. No compensation or apology from Virgin.

It was the worst level of service that I have ever found on an airline. Virgin is a real cattle class airline to Bali nowadays and they don’t even use a proper gate in Melbourne but a small one with insufficient seating for the passengers. A lot of the time in Bali they use a hard stand too so passengers have to bus to the terminal which defeats any benefit of being a J passenger both from priority and from luggage arrival perspectives.

I was just mentioning a choice for people flying from Bne and it’s a way of using KrisFlyer miles too which I have done so.

I felt that the article could have been more open about the actual levels of service that passengers receive on the different airlines mentioned in the article.

Jetstar fly BNE-DPS, some days twice a day. Or are you saying you insist on flying J only? Just book 1F on the A321neo and buy some meals and drinks.

Many prefer to fly J only and some like me have JQ on their banned list
Well with the A321neo fleet quite beefed up now the Australia-Bali flights on JQ seem quite reliable these days. But, fair enough

Has anyone actually flown TransNusa? Plenty saying the would not but not seen any first hand experience reports. Still thinking Bali direct from PER. Choice is Jetstar, Air Asia. BATIK, TransNusa. Maybe shudder at them all!! 🤪. Routing via SIn or KUL etc not an option for what is a 3 hour flight or so point to point.

Quite a few reviews on TripAdvisor. Most seem to be ok but planes are consistently mentioned as being a bit old.

Best airline ( for J, anyway):SQ.

MEL-SIN-DPS, both legs in A350-9, SQ catering, service and lounges.

Even better when it’s SQ award flights.

The motto off AFF is: Why fly direct when you can connect? :)
Ah yes. But hard to justify a direct flight in 3 hours for 800 dollars against a SQ route via SIN for 4,000 dollars in J. SQ are about 900 dollars return down the back for the route on around 11 hours.

Being in SEQ I prefer the AM JQ option, usually around $250 each way and gets in to DPS when the Airport is quiet (beats the A380 etc). On return I get home same day.

Hmmm… not sure I’d agree either!

SQ catering is limited. Lounges crowded. Beds with minuscule footwells. Annoying seat belt policy. Crew and drink list is good!

Flat beds and equal service provided on GA and QF.

Bit of a detour but I agree it's the best, by a long mile.
Am I the only one who finds SQ highly overrated?
Last couple of flights ex ADL the meals have been average and the service is just meh.
We have far better flights with MH ex ADL and actually prefer them over SQ. Have found that a decent way to get to Bali.

Hoping QF with its new A350/787 fleet might run a DPS overnight with perhaps one aircraft that might have sat overnight. Otherwise they are a joke to Bali.

Vote for MH here too. New kit on all routes according to AusBt soon.

Not Sure I really want to turn a 6 hour direct flight into a 12 hour one but each to their own

Agreed. Especially coming back. Either it’s an overnight or you’ve got to get up really early to take the 7:20am flight out of Bali.

TBH to MEL the morning Garuda departure or even the late morning or mid afternoon Jetstar options which get you there in 5.5hrs seems better (in an extra legroom seat).

Once, about three years ago when fares ex-SIN were exhorbitant on SQ and QF and even Scoot I even used QFF points to travel SiN-SYD on 3K->QF via Bali. In economy. It wasn’t the end of the world.

The GA and JQ early flights at least have you by the pool at your hotel by early afternoon. The late evening arrivals… you’ve lost a whole day. What’s the point?

Coming back, VA offers good daytime options. Check out at the regular time from your hotel… no need to pay for an extra day or beg for late checkout. And home in bed by that night.
