May be a good idea about transit times in LAX, as for Y class seating - yes pretty similar on the VA 773 aircraft 32" pitch and 18.5" width compared to the DL 77L aircraft which has 31" to 32" pitch and 18.5" width in normal Y seating.
One suggestion worth looking at (if you haven't already) is have a look at the price of 'Economy Comfort' on the DL 777L (Rows 29-32) which apparently have a decent 35" seat pitch and same width, I seem to recall some people getting pretty good value 'Economy Comfort' seating on the DL transpacific flights but maybe needed to be booked on the DL website? (not possible to book on VA web site?) also not sure if its possible to purchase after booking or has to be selected in the booking process. You won't earn extra points or SC's but your knees may thank you for it!
Edit: Just found this announcement on Flyertalk - may be worth checking up but I can't see a way of booking on the VA web site.
