Would you take VA1 or the Delta code share VA6552?
Does it matter in term of miles or Status credit?
Is one metal better than the other?
Any light you guys/girls can shine on this would be great.

I didn't think there was an option. I took VA1 a couple of weeks ago. 40SCs. 9370 points. Same for VA2.

If it's the VA code the points and SCs will be the same.

Personally the avgeek in me would take the DL flight one way because it's on the rather rare 77L.

However VA metal is likely the better experience overall.

5 of us flying economy and onto Orlando. May be better flying Virgin as more transit time in lax so you are not rushing. I think economy will probably be roughly the same on the 2 different planes.

May be a good idea about transit times in LAX, as for Y class seating - yes pretty similar on the VA 773 aircraft 32" pitch and 18.5" width compared to the DL 77L aircraft which has 31" to 32" pitch and 18.5" width in normal Y seating.

One suggestion worth looking at (if you haven't already) is have a look at the price of 'Economy Comfort' on the DL 777L (Rows 29-32) which apparently have a decent 35" seat pitch and same width, I seem to recall some people getting pretty good value 'Economy Comfort' seating on the DL transpacific flights but maybe needed to be booked on the DL website? (not possible to book on VA web site?) also not sure if its possible to purchase after booking or has to be selected in the booking process. You won't earn extra points or SC's but your knees may thank you for it! :D

Edit: Just found this announcement on Flyertalk - may be worth checking up but I can't see a way of booking on the VA web site.

Discounts for DL Economy Comfort Seating for WP (50%) & SG (25%) - FlyerTalk Forums

And this as well:

Personally I'd go VA metal if flying in economy; If flying J I'd be happy to give DL a go for the better hard product.

Flights in J on DL coded flights DL marketed and DL metal get only 2 bags instead of VA's 3???

If you are a VA WP I think you get an extra bag

32 kg each bag though.

QF WP get 4 bags at 32 kg in J/F to LOTFAP and 2 carryon but I'm not sure why you would need so much luggage allowance
