Generally the airlines with the greatest budgets.

In that regard Ansett International was no slouch at all.

Have to agree with you. Flew SYD-DPS a couple of times in J. The food and wine selection were very good

Food on SQ was designed by a business development cardiologist...........

However i have always managed to enjoy it, especially book the cook.

Found this page interesting Which Airlines Have the Best In-Flight Food? | Tripify The best food I have had on a plane was a Cathay Pacific flight from Rome to Hong Kong it was in first but it was great.what do you think is the best ? The Dyslexic Traveler
Being in First provides an unfair advantage!!If Lounges were taken into this equation, QF Flounge in Sydney's hard to beat in my view. As a general rule I try and eat up at a Lounge and avoid on-board food given often it's loaded pre or part-cooked and can sit warm for hours before service. Off subject slightly, I have to say the worst food I have ever had in the J/F range was on a recent DJ J-class flight from DPS to SYD, as detailed in a trip report. It's been a while since food almost induced vomiting but DJ achieved it on that occasion.

For my mind - JAL - the boxes can't be beat.
CX longhaul is good, medium hall fairly average.
Actually think QF International in J is very good, F less so as it is mostly the J food.

The blog is pretty pathetic - photos a combination of First and Economy and the Singapore blurb looks like is straight off the website.

Terrible article, as has been said there's no consistency between classes, you can't compare that! Also it looks like it's just every airline the author has flown.

For my vote, MH is best in Y class by a reasonable margin. But I love malaysian food, so may be biased :) But getting 3 ferrero rocher even in short haul economy? Win!

It's much of a muchness at the back of the bus.
MH breakfast hasn't changed for years, and either option isn't that great - I would have to say that their standards used to be great, but not so anymore.

For an economy meal, I found the chicken and leek pie between SIN and PER on the roo to be quite tasty and nice.

For the most bland meal, I would say the international meal on D7. Microwave meals have more flavour than what this had.

Just posted a comment detailing the appalling quality of the blogpost. Seeing as it is critical of the post content as a whole, I don't fancy my chances of it making the comments section after moderation.

Oh, and I'm not sure when they withdrew it, but I'm sure VS hasn't had First Class for a very, very long time (no, Upper Class is not First Class).

From my experience on a smattering of airlines, I'd have to say:
  • Economy: Best is probably Singapore Airlines. It's a much of muchness, but as far as the most comforting food goes, SQ does the best job (probably not too good for your waistline and possibly sodium count). Worst has to be United.
  • Business: Best is a bit of a tie between Cathay Pacific and Qantas. The former is like Singapore Airlines for Business class - rich food which tastes very comforting. Sometimes it's just a bit too much and boring, though. When Qantas pull it off, they have great Business food. Worst in Business for me has been Virgin Atlantic.
  • First: Swiss for the best. Great variety and menu. A First Class menu without caviar does not make a failure of service, for me. Hard to say there is a "worst" of First Class.
That said, I have never flown the ME carriers, which would add an interesting dimension to the mix.

I think they have made good progress in airline food, but seriously how do you beat this??

...

Few things:
  • That food was great then. Except for the lobster and caviar, most of the other food served in First Class then, if served now, would be regarded as pretty pedestrian.
  • The piano bar would be nice, but then there were a lot more First Class seats then, which were not even lie-flat with 80" of pitch, with no suite doors.... and it cost at least 150% more than what First Class costs today

Without a doubt some the best food I've had on plane was on SQ, QF, MH, TG, EK and CX. Without a doubt some of the worst food I've had on a plane was on SQ, QF, TG and CX. EK and MH somehow managed to avoid having the worst food, but I am sure if I flew them enough I'd strike a bad meal or two.

Yes i think in real terms, it was prohibitive, if you bring the cost back to average weekly wages.

In terms of presentation, how can you beat the look of a real lobster! (er sorry crayfish)

Good point. I'm yet to find a decent breakfast in Y, on any airline for that matter. Doesn't help when I don't like milk, so cereal is a chore.

Breakfasts in any class aren't anything to be too excited about (unless there are non-Western options on the menu). You can't hope for a brilliant one, so you just not hope for a bad one.
