Hi All..

Just wondering which if any Star Alliance airlines consider miles earn't on credit cards as miles towards a status?

Are there any? Somebody told me ages ago that AA used to do it? I havn't been able to find anything else out about it.

Thanks
Kael

I believe AA still do, but they aren't part of the Star Alliance. I don't know of any *A members who do, but that doesn't mean there aren't any...

With AA, any miles earned, from flying, partners, CC transfers etc, are counted towards lifetime mileage earning, which also counts towards lifetime status. They do not count towards regularly qualifying requirements.

The only way to qualify for regular elite status levels is:
  • Elite Qualifying Points (earned by flying)
  • Elite Qualifying Miles (earned by flying)
  • Elite Qualifying Segments (earned by flying)

AFAIK no *A programs include credit card spend towards status (annual or lifetime). However, UA Mileage Plus does have recurring promotions whereby holding a particular US-based card (you'll need to be able to get a US issued credit card) does allow a fixed amount of miles (IIRC 10,000 or 15,000 or 20,000?) to be earned as status miles for qualification of annual status (but not lifetime).

I'm not 100% familiar with the details, but a search of Flyer Talk's UA Mileage Plus forum should reveal the info.

Thanks for the input guys.

Status for me is a major thing. I think I'm going to go with TG as they're Gold lasts for two years. Thats easier than requalifing for 50,000 miles every single year, like most other *A airlines.

Plus my AMEX card allows me to transfer miles over to them.

UA has always been myfavourite for the good rewards, but since I can't get a CC to accrure miles to MP, its just not holding favour any more.
