Spent two hours on the phone to QF - they couldn’t offer any alternates nor upgrade either of my QF bookings.
So I am thankful I had a backup.
DH has agreed we will go via SIN.

SIN is the best, really.
Hong Kong would be ok, if only their political situation was better, but that is out of our hands, so even if CX was back to normal ops, I would still say, for the time being, go with SIN.
BKK as I mentioned, some might like the city, but its too dicey.
Though, also, some people do say SIN is small and boring, but at the least, its safe, and they have their ways of speaking English, and the children over there are very adherent to laws, ie, no playing around like BKK "streetkids" or Aust yobbos.

Give it a break please. Bangkok is NOT that bad, certainly safer than London or Los Angeles IMO, but at the end of the day we are discussing cities to transit in. That generally means not leaving the airport precinct.

Street crime is generally never going to impact someone who doesn't leave the airport. The bigger risk is from overzealous government officials searching your phone/laptop (China, possibly Hong Kong) or your body (Qatar). As a transit city, Bangkok is a reliable and extremely safe option.

glad that you are going via SIN instead of HKG... i dont think CX will survive to be honest... not even on the political situation, but just pure economics of this "lockdown" in HKG will make this airline go bust

CX is looking pretty sick. I wouldn't be counting on them for anything.

They're operating on 2% of their pre-covid traffic.
this airline WILL die because not just hkers dont like this airline based on political views, but the basic fact of economy of extended lockdown of the city
