Legoman - I think Tassie and maybe SA and NT often are neglected in these deals too. I guess AmEx target their spending base.

I reckon we'll be lucky to see another Dan's offer at all and certainly not the juicy $150/50 offers. It's too easy to convert to visa cards and spend elsewhere. The First Choice offer was limited to online only, most likely to avoid gift card purchases. And then there's Harvey Norman and to a lesser extent, Westfields. Many were surprised to even see the offer again this year but they still found a way to sink even lower (even though they were just enforcing the T&Cs).

It's all a bit of icing on the cake really - well it should be, but some of the players treat credits as income I reckon (looking at you, Ozbargain) - so don't worry too much about a dry spell. I'm sure you'll get some AmEx love soon. Just hope that it's for a card you hold or isn't targeted.

I'm new to this and small fry, just 3 cards in my household and I usually miss the best offers. They max out while I'm still sleeping. That said I'm more than happy with the deals I got through Shop Small, Cotton On and Myer. As Happy Dude said, a bit of icing on the Amex MR cake.

Really? I've got the problems and yet you're the one suggesting I should cancel two perfectly good direct-earn, fee-free credit cards for simply having 5h!t, useless bonus offers attached which are not their primary purpose for existing in the first place anyway?

I think you might wanna lock yourself in a room full of mirrors for a while so you can have a bloody good hard look at yourself.

Back up a little there! You are the one who started this thread with a complaint about the lack of offers. There have, in fact, been plenty of offers, far too many for me to use, but I still gained huge benefits.

If the statement credit offers are not the primary purpose of the cards, as you state, why are you complaining about the apparent lack thereof.

It's possible, you are the one who should be in the mirrored room.

Don't mind me. I accidentally stumbled in here but I'll go back to the Your Questions thread where it's all a bit more friendly

I'd say it's very normal, although I still have this offer which is active:

HILTON PORTFOLIO HOTELS AND RESORTS
Spend AUD$400 or more, get AUD$120 back

In my opinion offers were generally worse in 2017 over previous years.

You do seem determined to claim that NONE of the offers are any use... fine..we all have different wants... looks like you are SOL lately with AMEX. I will address ONE of your claims though... You have Internet so who needs a cinema? What size TV have you got? 55"...70"?
Good aren't they? That's why cinemas are still relevant.... ain't no TV can match a cinema screen.....:)

We do agree on this! No quality modern flat screen TV I've seen can get anywhere near the washed out, faded colours and noisy, dirty image presentation of the cinema experience, you're dead right about that.

To get an image that bad, I'd have to give a 3yo a vegemite sandwich and then encourage him/her to smear their hands all over the screen before I sat down to watch a movie to reproduce that authentic cinema experience. Be that as it is though, we all know it's not all about just the picture quality don't we? The cinema experience also comes with the inability to rewind that scene you missed a bit of crucial dialogue in because the guy sitting behind you decided to rummage though his box of popcorn at just the wrong moment. When you need a pee in the cinema, how effective is the pause button on your remote for you? Mine works fine at home thanks. Do you wanna compare the differences in cost too?

This thread does not concern the cinema experience. Take it elsewhere (on-topic preferred) if you would like to continue.

Legoman - what exactly are you after with offers, a specific store or two?

I am in Perth as well and I find plenty of use for my Amex cards with heaps of offers around the last quarter of the year. These are just some of the ones that we took advantage of:

- Shop Small - more stores than I can mention
- Online offer - heaps of online stores in various categories
- Woolworths
- Apple Pay offer at Woolworths
- Harvey Norman
- Hilton Resorts
- First Choice Liquors
- UberEats
- Amazon

Yep. No a bad deal. Used that one in NZ on DJ's Amex.

Of those you list, only Woolworths + First Choice would be of use to me. I admit that I didn't see either of them, or if I did see the First Choice one, then it was either too specifically targeted to a specific type of product I'm not interested in to be of use or else the standard prices at Dan Murphy's were still cheaper.

First choice price match with Dan Murphy's. I use this all the time as we have a FC local but the DM is a few suburbs over. This is in Perth.

I really struggle to see how anyone can't get value out of the Amex offers over the whole year.

My wife and I had great success and I would estimate have gotten more double the combined $1,200 annual fees paid back in credits. Each having supp cars on Explorer and Plat Edge obvioulsy helps to maximise the offers.

Man, I can't believe Amex didn't tailor their offers to meet the specific needs of one particular person on an anonymous internet forum. How dare they! I'd cancel in protest, but they aren't offering any retention bonuses these days so I guess I'm stuck...
