When does the A380 Start Service on LAX-MEL

Hi,

Two questions:

I'm itching to fly the new A380. It looks good. I've even
looking forward to flying economy to see what
those "fishnet foot supports" are. I've had vague emails
from Qantas saying August 2008. Does any one else
have any other insights and specific dates.

Also, if I book an award seat for say August 2008
and later I find its not on the A380 (because say
due to Airbus delays yet again ) can I change
the dates without incurring a $ of points penalty?

Can't help you with any more concise dates for the first question.

Officially, it is 5000 points to change/reissue the ticket. (See Qantas web site), but I have found from past experience, it actually depends on your status - WP can change their award bookings with no penalty up to 24hrs before the flight. Gold, Silver and Bronze will incur a 5000 point penalty. I've done this three or four times over the past two years and never incurred a hit.

My sister (Bronze) incurred a 5000 point hit when she tried to change an award flight - after that, we resolved for her to transfer the points to me when she wants to make an award booking then I make the booking for her. That way, she is more likely to get the flights she wants and if it needs to change, there is no penalty associated with it - just a little more hassle for me - but then, what are brothers for...

Gold do not incur the revalidation penalty either (and it's 2½K points per PAX when charged).

On an award ticket coming home on Saturday morning, I was in MEL on Friday and was quite sick, so rang up QF and the agent put me onto the last flight out of MEL that night. Very nice of them to do. Informed me it would cost 2,500 points to do so, but as of yet has still not disappeared from my account - I'm not to complain

That's good information to know and I'm glad I was wrong. I have never had to change an award booking so will definitely keep this in mind if I do.

The fish net foot rests might be like the one I tested a few years back when I did some testing for QF. Basically a fish net sack to put your feet into to stop you sliding forward. They also asked us to test the new seats too and swore us to secrecy
