What's your Uber experience?

Does anyone still even use Uber? Didi is way cheaper.

I dont use it in Oz. Only when I'm travelling. Just came back from a trip to South America and it is really cheap and convenient there. If you're travelling with another person or more, it's often cheaper than public transport.

Which city? I haven't had any problems in Melbourne. Always very quick.

Brisbane but have indicated they have had trouble elsewhere. Would seem that availability is fine in CBD and surrounds but outside that it’s luck of the draw.

Interesting. Didi drivers say they prefer it over Uber because they get a greater share of the ride cost. Not sure why drivers are still driving for Uber.

Had good recent experiences with Ola in Brisbane. Got a 50% off trips for first two weeks. Then a 30% off discount, plus 20% off for airport trips.
In discussion with a driver who drives for Uber, Ola and Didi and with stats from Rideshare Drivers United:
Company$per KMTaken by company$ per KM to driverCompany pays tax in Aus
Uber$1.5125%$1.13No :(
Didi$1.745.5%$1.64Yes :)
Ola$1.7015%$1.49Yes :)
Errors and omissions excepted

Yes the drivers get a bigger % but the fares are lower. Most likely ends up very similar. It’s faulty logic to think they are getting more.

And of course Uber is by far the dominant player in the market. Why wouldn’t a driver go with them?

It, of course, also depends where you’re driving. Not everyone in Australia lives in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane. The other companies aren’t prevalent even in my city of Townsville. Which means nor are the customers.

Didi are entering the Perth market on 4th November. I expect to see plenty of discount offers from both Ola and Uber. In fact just today, Ola doubled their referral bonus.

More users = more demand. Better to have more work at a lower rate than sitting around waiting for the next customer on Didi..

The post above you indicates you are wrong. More $ per km to the driver with Didi.

A driver can have both apps open at the same time. Why wouldn't a driver be on Didi and Uber at the same time? Also, I think that will not be correct for very long. Didi is very aggressively increasing its market share with regular discount codes. I'd say Uber's days as the dominant player are numbered.

The post above is incorrect. Here are prices for DiDi in Brisbane:

Prior to going to fixed fares Uber was circa $1.30 per km. That’s 25% higher than DiDi which makes up for the higher Uber commission.

It’s all a wash for the driver but I’m not surprised to hear that ex-taxi drivers think they are getting more money.

Your post does not indicate that drivers make more from Uber. Even taking into account Didi's lower prices, the difference in commission offsets them on a typical ride (the Example Competitor here is Uber with its 27.5% commission):

I prefer Didi because it pays drivers more. I've yet to hear a single driver say they make less from Didi compared to Uber.

I didn’t say you make more on Uber (although due to much more demand you certainly would). I said it is a wash. Faulty logic to think a driver makes more per trip on DiDi due to lower commission. They will end up with very similar on a per trip basis due to higher Uber prices. It’s simple math.

The demand point is irrelevant because drivers use both apps at the same time.

In what way is this faulty logic? A lower commission can offset a higher rate. That's simple math.

To give you a blindly simple example, take two trips:
Ride Share Company One: a 20km trip charged at $2 per km with a 25% commission = $30 for the driver
Ride Share Company Two: a 20km trip charged at $1.75 per km with a 5% commission = $33.25 for the driver

If I'm a driver, I will go with Company Two every time. Those small amounts add up to a big difference over the course of a long shift.

I find it beyond bizarre that people would choose Uber over Didi if both are available given that Didi is cheaper and gives the driver a bigger share of the fee.

If you are going to use dummy figures at least try and use figures that represent the actual % difference in prices of the respective companies. Your example has a 14% price difference. Try the same calcs with a 25% price difference and tell us what you come up with.
Very noble of you defend the faulty logic of ex-taxi drivers though.

LOL it was a hypothetical example to show that you are wrong -- a lower commission can offset a higher fee. It is, in your own words, 'simple math'.

If you want an example using real figures, look at the link I provided above. LOL I've already given you a real life example.

Are you an Uber shill? Do you work in their PR department?

You have yet to provide one logical, rational reason for preferring Uber over Didi when Didi is better for the passenger and the driver.

Yes, I’m an Uber shill. That’s why I’ve said quite clearly that other ride shares are cheaper for the customer. More faulty logic. It all becomes clear now.
LOL indeed!

I told you the prices of both services. Showed you the very basic math of why it works out much the same for the driver. Not much more I can do other than suggest you ask someone else to explain it to you.

much the same for the driver.

Okay, all good now.

You concede that Didi is better for the driver -- 'much the same' is not 'the same'.

And you concede that Didi is cheaper for the customer.

That's all I was trying to establish.

And BTW, the link you provided contained incorrect “real life” figures. The “example competitor” in your link had almost the same per Km price. This is not reality.

Really? That’s what you managed to glean from my post? I can see why you have such a tenuous grasp of logic.
