What's your Uber experience?

Don't forget to tune into Four Corners tonight for an Uber expose.

OT - BUT - DiDi just sent me 2 15% discounts for use until Thur - nice timing with a trip to MEL early am Thur - should make DiDi ~64 or so compared to Uber $94.

Double OT - Ola just sent me 5 FREE rides this week to max $15/ride

Lovely timing from our grateful Government. Have other States been so blessed?
I don't think that the date has anything to do with it either...

WA Government introduces 10% levy per trip
Hi Frank,

As of 1 April 2019, the WA Government will require all taxi, rideshare and hire car providers to pay a temporary 10% levy for each trip taken.

This means you will be charged an additional 10% on your fare by your driver partner (up to a maximum levy of $10) for every completed trip in the Perth, Mandurah and Murray levy area, on top of the current fare. The WA Government will use the money collected to fund a $120 million taxi compensation package.

For trips taken in fully electric vehicles (which are exempt from the levy) or where the levy collected exceeds $10 after the completion of the trip, a refund will automatically be processed.

I am finding less joy in Uber, they are morphing into a sad version of the taxis I had been trying to avoid :-(
I am having to resort to the high end option, even then it’s a bit hit and miss

I gave my first low score last week - gave him a 3 - he tailgated, changed lanes unnecessarily and although he wasn't dangerous there was no necessity for the way he drove. Plus he told me he used to be a taxi driver and he was very clever and knew all the short cuts in Adelaide. I know I feel the heat but he had the car so warm I was uncomfortable and I couldn't get a word in edgewise to ask him to turn it down.

Does anyone know what maps Uber uses - they can never get my address correct and want to turn down a street that you haven't been able to turn right into for about 10 years

Similar to @GPH, I am less happy with Uber but the only other option I have used (Ingogo - count on one hand) were all worse than Uber. May end up going back to hiring cars for some trips.

Can't say I agree with the need for that and would be unhappy to pay it. Looks like I'm back to hiring cars in Perth then, as that 10% surcharge will bring the prices back up to what I was paying hiring a car.

I've now used Uber 6 times. I still don't really feel comfortable using them and only use Uber if I'm stuck and the fare difference is significant.

The other thing that irks me is that with the 4th or 5th trip my rating went down to 4.80 where it has stayed. Not a big deal but I'm always pleasant but not necessarily in the mood for conversation all the time.

The 5th driver rated you a 4 instead of a 5. Not a big deal number wise - it's still good - though it understandably irks. But because ratings like that happen, it wouldn't have any negative effect at that level. You're not expected to be only having perfect ratings, all the time.

I suspect any pax who don’t tip, will in the future will get a maximum 4 rate.
I now see 4 as my top driver rate unless the experience is exceptional which is rare.

Doubt it.
The driver has to rate the PAX BEFORE the PAX even has the opportunity to tip.

Got an Uber last night and was asked if I would like a bottle of water or a mint - think that's the first time I've been offered that in Australia.

I could have done with that bottle of water when I woke up this morning though :(

3 of us in a taxi from hotel in MEL CBD to airport. A bottle of water for each of us.

I use Uber in the States now almost religiously, but using Grab at the moment in SE Asia. Biggest difference i the vehicles, in Malaysia a lot of them are Protons and not the greatest of cars, but the drivers are quite pleasant. There is a lot of competition here so cars are very easy toget and cheap.

A fairly young bloke is driving as Uber in PQQ. Was my first trip in a Tesla and I am not sure the sums add up for keeping such a vehicle on the road. Was also certainly the biggest touch screen I have seen in a car but he still headed to the wrong drop-off spot
