What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Just bought a heap of US dollars.. I hope my prediction that today's appreciation was a blip in a generally downward trend was right, or I'll be feeling rather stupid in a few month's time

Bernanke announced QE would continue this morning.

In light of my earlier comments, it is borderline unfathomable for the AUD to still be below parity at this point, despite the basket of goods test.

The USD couldn't possibly be debased any further.

On the other hand, that debasement has to be weighted against the increasing obviousness of how fragile and shallow our economy is.

*NAB’s revised forecasts:
March: From 84 to 90 US cents
June: From 83 to 88 US cents
September: From 81 to 86 US cents
December: From 80 to 84 US cents

This is assuming that the Yanks stop QE and Commodity prices go lower.

That's quite miserable, considering it hovered around 30baht for a lengthy period & as you well know prices are always upward trending.

Am I dreaming or did it get over 33THB at one stage? It was certainly 32THB and well over 30THB on more than occasion.

I still remember when I first went over there in 2003 it was around 23-24THB. Not good to get back those levels again. Prices have been increasing over there.

From what I can see a lot of budget accommodation in February is way overpriced right now. I am going to make a point and check-out some budget accommodation this trip to prepare for next year as things are not looking good with ever increasing prices and 20-25% depreciation in AUD.

My first trip to Thailand was in 2006 so I'll never forget the exchange rate which was 35 baht to our dollar....thought it was normal!

I've been to Thailand maybe 40-45 times since late 2008... always seems to be around 29-31 baht to the dollar. especially crest card doesn't seem to have much fluctuation at all.

I think that accommodation deals are still there, just gotta know where to find them.

Late 2008 early 2009 was the killer. It got down to ~24THB which is a joke.

Yes they are there but you need to be on the look out.

All I said was I need to check out some of the places offering the cheaper accommodation.

interesting... I always thought the aud-thb was pretty steady... but going back to 2008 I see it dropped as low as 21baht to the dollar! I obviously didn't know any better back then!

i know this is OT, but accor has sales two-three times a year with 40% all their hotels in Asia. there's some great bargains. if you haven't already, sign up for their club (free to join).

I also don't understand why AUD-US can fluctuate as they do however the THB rate seems pretty steady no matter what.

I do check Accor but be honest I have not found any bargains during their sales.

The best I can do with Ibis in Pattaya is ~AUD40 which is not a flash rate considering it is in North Pattaya and full of Russians. The All Seasons is way out of the way and the Mercure is always expensive.

I have 3-4 places I can generally get for <AUD35/night but I want to try and find others. Perhaps some of the guest houses rather than hotels.

No more 60 baht per night mattress runs in Khao San Road.. ?
I must be reflecting on a bygone era.. Thailand has changed.. & um.. I am more matured.. :D

I would prefer parity with the USD, and at least 80 Euro cents. Wishful thinking maybe.
Just saw on best Buy website 100 dollar itunes voucher for 85$ USD. sounds like a good deal. Does anybody know how to purchase this from Australia?

You must be getting back to the 90's. I did not visit Thailand in those days so I cannot comment.
