To complete the trilogy of threads I've started this morning (see here), what's your favourite place to visit if you want to experience a big, bustling city?

My personal favourite is Berlin, but New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore all come to mind as well as places I really enjoy.

To the above cities I'd add Paris: a great all-rounder with a little bit (well, a lot) of everything: food, culture, (urban) scenery, and a fun (if slightly intimidating) vibe.

Although I love Singapore my favourite is really Berlin. We have been there 4 times for over 20 days in total and every time we leave I moan to myself about things I still haven't managed to see or do. For the purposes of this post I am including Potsdam as part of Berlin.

It is such an unusual city and with a very different feel to other German cities. Chaotic, graffiti infested with gruff locals but always fascinating with a sense of history in almost every suburb.

Add London! The mix of old and new. Covid spoilt my track record of visiting at least once every year for an about 20 years in a row.

New York is always amazing.

For those that haven’t been, Madrid is worth considering. Just not at the height of summer!
