Am a QC member.
Travelling internationally with a friend but we are on separate bookings not linked. I wanted an upgrade he didn't so I don't want to link them.

Am I going to be able to guest him into the lounge if we aren't on linked or the same booking? We are sitting together (well if I get my upgrade we won't be ) is that enough? We will be together is that enough or are there rules for what's travelling together means?
I understand they don't want people to bring randoms into the lounge.

You'll be able to take your friend in; you and your friend don't have to be on the same booking.

Some lounge access rules require same flight but never same booking, all good.

Sweet. Probably going to get the "you ditched me for business, didn't upgrade me and left me to sit with some stranger for 21 hours" lecture.
Would hate to get the "you left me in the terminal alone while you enjoyed the lounge" talk too especially since I still have to spend the rest of the trip and way back with them.

You will be fine. Enjoy your trip.

Some people think that travelling MEL-LHR with their friend on 2 different carriers with different transit points is "travelling together". Hmmm.

I understand they don't want people to bring randoms into the lounge.
They can't stop you doing it. I have done it a few times including guesting people who have been refused access to lounge.

There is nothing in the lounge guesting terms and conditions that state you have to know the person you are guesting into the lounge.

It all comes down to discretion i guess. I once tried it with someone who had been rejected, and was told you have to know them to let them in. Probably shouldn't have done it in front of the desk i guess :)

I guess discretion would be nice but sometimes spur of the moment decisions make me feel better.

I will continue to guest strangers into the lounge if the opportunity arises for as long as I have status.
