What's more important onboard - seat space or entertainment?

Space, first second and third. I can entertain myself with my laptop and a couple of books.

'Real Estate" --- Space, Space, Space is the most sought after commodity IMO for any flight!! :D

Wot Hvr said for me.

Flying to AKL on a 737-800 in J with IFE, I'd rather have the old 767 with the communal screens - for me IFE is all in the seats!

Well since both is not an option, I would chose comfort over IFE... Worst case scenario I have an iPad which has a nice little collection of movies, music and games. Use a half decent headset (something airlines rarely give in Y as well) and you have the makings of some perfectly good DIY IFE...

To make this a perfect solution, all they need is to install some clips to hold the modern day tablets into place where the screen is located and it would be perfect. (Provided you owned a tablet).

That said I do like the IFE systems they give on planes, I've seen some great (and some absolutely awful) movies which I probably would not have otherwise seen had I not been flying.

I would say neither. As long as enough alcohol is supplied to knock us out, neither space or IFE would be needed.

SPACE. That is why I now refuse to fly in whY.
Except for maybe domestic short haul. And I am not happy to do that either.
If I can't fly J then I stay.

Space for sure, I can't remember the last time ive used IFE longer than 1 hr on a flight, most of the time I try to catch up on sleep

Space. I can make my own entertainment with iPad. They tend to complain if I try to make more legroom. (those seat backs fold forward so you can put your feet up. :)

I used to be like this. However on the 90min trip from MEL gates to SYD gates last week I was on a new 738 on QF with gate to gate IFE. I was able to almost watch two episodes of Revenge which I am currently trying to catch up on. If I could guarantee this aircraft I would switch back from a 763 preference in whY to a 738.

However in general space is absolutely key.

Quite obvious - space.

I think we AFFers are seeing a pattern here :)

IFE doesn't do anything much for me irrespective of the aircraft, airline or class. Even if I'm bored, I'm not very likely to turn on the TV. Usually to amuse myself I just turn it onto the airshow / map.

Maybe this is the better question. Would you be prepared to sack someone in order to fly J?

I think people need to critically assess their resource requirements as part of their responsibility for maximising returns to shareholders.

And if you get the answer that you should be flying Y, re-do the assessment.

+10000000 as well for space, I can bring my own entertainment (book, laptop etc) but cannot bring my own personal space on board.
