Why cant Tiger fly into Adelaide?

Welcome to AFF!

Did you read the article? They are saying they will resume Adelaide flights they just aren't basing any crew there. Tiger will have a significantly reduced network compared to what they had before they were grounded.

Why cant Tiger fly into Adelaide?

Tiger have a statement saying both Avalon and Adelaide bases are temporarily closing, once they get approval from CASA for more flights I am sure their destinations beyond Sydney and Melbourne will once again become Tiger operated.

I think Adelaide is a bit more than a temporary closure.

Rereading the tiger website the word temporary is not there, you could be right, mind you that could still mean Adelaide will be a destination.

Didn't the SA Government throw a heap of cash at Tiger to set up their base in ADL? Im pretty sure it was ADL. Well I guess they will be asking for some of that back

Word on the street is JQ poached at least 5 of their Check and Training Captains.

This may hamper them.

Jetstar, Virgin and Qantas swooped and picked up a huge % of all Tigers casual staff.

They couldn't staff their previous network even if they wanted to.

But how do you test the competency of CASA? This whole debacle demonstrates to me that they are:

1. incompetent

2. overstaffed, if they can drop everything else to crucify a foreign-owned business

3. totally not independent (they just do the Govt's dirty business).

I'll be monitoring the performance of CASA rather than Tiger.

Judging from the court delays, I suspect CASA is is getting 'agreements' in place to protect their legal backsides. I think 'under duress' would apply and such 'agreements' nullified at law.
Secondly, enforcing regulations is not a 'done deal' . Regulations can be challenged / struck down.
Thirdly, there is still much open ended risk - Tiger has the legal bankroll to do a 5-6 year battle - see Pan Pharmaceuticals. Systemic <> Imminent.

So on top of grounding losses, we have bases being shut down, and staff poached . I'll hazard a guess Northern Territory will be a looser - And Alice and Darwin will become most expensive per km routes again.

I was umming and arrring about replying, but here goes.It doesn't demonstrate any of this at all, the regulator looks at the Act, the rules, regulations, airline safety management systems and tests compliance for non conformance. The fact that Tiger was grounded doesn't indicate CASA is overstaffed and dropped doing anything else to chase Tiger. What it indicates is there was evidence of non conformance in the safety system that was systemic, it also indicates Tiger could not provide evidence it could effectively correct the problems and at the same time continue to fly. Nobody is stopped from flying (or operating a train) for a single breech, there has to be a trend and areas of concern and evidence of gaps. Say the 2009 audit picked up something minor, then in 2010 the same issue hadn't been resolved so it goes from minor to major, then in 2011 it's still not fixed and you have a non conformance report showstopper. I myself do safety management system audits in the rail sector, the points you raise are issues I've never seen in any Govt transport safety regulators office.I gould go on for hours, perhaps sometime over a beer might be better. Matt
