What's A Better Way to Price International Long-Haul Flights

Hi,

All this talk about longer trips being cheaper and unadvertised sales
going on for 3 hours got me thinking the airlines are really screwed up.

So what would be a fairer (for both airline and oursevles) of pricing
long haul trips beyond just origin and destination and class of travel.

I would suggest:

a) Weight (the larger the person, the more jet fuel!)
b) Leg-room in economy (I would pay $100 for a 5 more inches)
c) Quality of meals (no reason they can't serve business meals
in economy for a price)
d) anything else?

Also, be warned that I passed my U.S. citizenship test last week,
so I'm now also an American as well. So your going to see some changes
in my behavior from now on ... All oil in the world is ours regardless
if its in the U.S. or not and all poor people need is to help themselves :shock: .

At 6'3" I would welcome any way to get additional legroom in economy, even by paying extra.

I hope that with the delivery of the A380 that QF introduces a premium economy product with more seat pitch. At least that way on true long haul flights there would be some addtional comfort. It is probably unlikely though that QF would introduce the same product on regional routes serviced by the A330. This may change when they take delivery of the 787, but this is just my speculation

Am not overly concerned about food in Y. It is palatable, but I tend not to eat too much on long haul flights. Perhaps a better selection of alcohol though.

You could add more personal attention as d) in the above list, but that individual has just been sacked by QF More attentive staff in Y would be appreciated though.

And I guess that we are just lucky that we don't have something here that Dubya wants - otherwise it would be an even closer AU - USA relationship

If you are going to do that then I'd like discounts for

I) Not using much (any) of my baggage allowance
II) Saving the airline marketing/promo costs (I don't see the tv/newspaper/etc ads and base decisions on price, availability and experience)
III) Saving on magazine cost - I only need to read it once in all my flights each month
IV) Saving on meals - I seem to eat less than many others around me
V) Reduced cost of check in - I know the drill and thus can get checked in very fast, saving time and money for the airline

ah if you are talking weight then the extra pre-departure drinks (in the lounge) offset so don't forget to take that into account, not to mention the saving in the amount of water etc needed to be carried

I usually go before I go, in the nicer lounge toilets (except at certain airports toilets are to be avoided at all costs) - making yet another weight saving. At this rate, airlines should pay me to fly.

And they are not the only airline to do this. SQ charges extra in business class for 77W (both in regular fares and surcharge for RTWs, circle products, etc).

(Add a JL perspective into the mix, and some very confused Japanese premium passengers are the likely result!)
