Virgin like other airlines sub-contact their checkin, baggage, security etc to 3rd party providers. Such as Aero-Care, Menzies (and other providers) at many domestic terminals.
On recent trip with Mrs Mavrick (RED) on a different booking, but same flight the Gold Call centre couldn't move her seat to be near me above row 10, had to be done by airport staff. I gather the call centre doesn't have access to manifests or seat allocation etc. They seem to be able to just put a 'note' on the booking and join them together.
Often at small ports like HBA, the checkin desk person is the same as the gate person and the same person also puts the wheelie bins out with the flags on the tarmac. It's all hands on.
Any one know if all check-in (operations) staff on the Premium Checkin are sub-contact/Aero-Care? Are the Lounge (desk) staff Virgin direct employ or sub-contract. I know this will vary by airport-airport.
I knew a former Aerocare staffer (operations), that could pre-allocate seats to Pax using the back-end system. This was prior tp J Class - about 3 years ago.
I ask this with the thought in mind that perhaps Lounge Staff, or senior check-in staff have higher delegations and ability to move Pax around cabin, and Op-up Status Pax.
