What to do with my last 64,897 QFF points?

I am a QFF orphan. I have 64,000+ points and no prospect of ever earning any more. I generate most of my points via credit card, and when Qantas changed their policy to force the transfer of points to QFF I cancelled all those cards. Now, of course, it is not possible to transfer points to QFF from a credit card. I am an ex-customer who has no way back to Qantas. Which is interesting - not many companies make it this difficult for an offended customer to return... I refuse to fly the awful Jetstar, and if I have to pay for a ticket I fly Virgin Blue or Virgin Atlantic. So I can never generate any new QFF points. I travel to Europe annually, travelling business class. Mostly I do this on my Amex points, but sometimes I pay. I have 64,000+ QFF points and would like to use them before Qantas ask for a membership fee. Should I buy something in the shop? Take a side trip in Europe flying a partner airline? Fly the awful Jetstar next time I go to Sydney? Or just abandon the points and be grateful I never have to fly Qantas again?
 
That many points will get you to Asia. Go shopping in Bangkok - then fly Malaysia or someone home and get Velocity points ;)

Haha, good suggestion but I never travel to Asia - I don't like Asia, it's too hot and smelly. I have been to Bangkok, but I prefer Europe.
 
So use points to get to BKK (for example) and then pay to head straight to Europe. Save some $$$. If you prefer J - then you could use points & pay??

Other than that - get some vouchers? :?:

I thought that if you open a new, say, NAB or Westpac CC, you can sweep into a QF account? If you were with one l listed, can you just open with another bank you haven't used before or AMEX?

Oh I've never flown Tiger - and heard dreadful things about them. I fly Virgin Blue domestically, and I like them - and i earn points on every flight. The Virgin Blue flight might cost a little more than Jetstar, but I'm not a "lowest price" kind of guy, and I have never flown Jetstar after one truly awful experience...

VB are great. I never get slugged for extra baggage, or for being late. The staff seem to enjoy flying for VB and I get points for every flight.

You know, you only need to have one TRULY AWFUL experience and you will never, ever, ever, ever, consider that business again. For me, there are two businesses that meet that criteria - Telstra (and I cannot tell you how much time and money they have wasted trying to win back my business) and Jetstar (who have never tried, so perhaps they know that once you hate them, you hate them for life).

I did not really become an ex-Qantas customer by choice. But when they decided to make the transfer of points to QFF mandatory I decided they could go cough* themselves. Now I am an ex-QFF customer with no way back. I'm happy if they are happy...

Haha. I ALWAYS flew Qantas. It would just depress me if you reinforced my view that Qantas has become the airline not-to-fly...

There were three factors that led me to the decision not to fly Qantas any more...

1. The truly awful Jetstar and their customer-hating policies. Especially the "na, nana, na, na - you are 30 seconds past the cut off time for checkin and you forfeit your flight. Bad luck sucker..." attitude...

2. The inexplicable decision to replace the old, and awful, business class seats with new seats that were almost identical to the old ones - on a slope which ensured your undies were up to your navel after 20 minutes - when everyone else was offering flat beds. I paid the extra points to travel BA for several years!

3. The enforced transfer of credit card points to QFF. It was an instant decision - you either agreed to the change, or not. If you did, you were locked in to QFF - if you did not, you were locked out. I didn't think QFF was much chop and preferred virgin atlantic - so i chose "NO" and was locked out. Really, that was it - I am an ex-QF customer with no way back... That's quite funny really - I know they do it with their employees, but what other corporations lock out their customers?

I would not be surprised to see Qantas re-nationalised within the next few years. Qantas has made too many enemies amongst their cabin crew, flight crew and passengers to survive the downturn which is to come. Perhaps, if Qantas were ever to replace the accountant CEO's with sales people (a la Richard Branson), I might fly them again. If I was not forced to made a decision with my credit card points. And if I never had to fly the awful Jetstar...

Sh**. On re-reading that, I might as well admit I'm never, ever, going to fly a Qantas airline again am I... For a true-blue Aussie that is very, very, disappointing...
 
If you do not have QF activity your problem will go away: the points will disappear. They will not ask for a fee.
Just like Hillman and its offspring orphans disappeared in that market. Gone but remebered for what they were.

Why not have a competition for "the worst Qantas experiemce ever" and donate them to the winner?
 
I'd book a one way SYD/MEL-SIN in J class, preferably on a A380. Then transit and make your way to EUR.

Yeah, not a bad suggestion. I have my flight to London booked already on Virgin Atlantic and will come back with them, though perhaps I can change in HK... I will check it out - thanks for the suggestion...

SYD-HKG on QF is also 60K for one way J, or return Y.
