What to do with hotel toiletries/amenities kits (and even excess Qantas PJs!)

I use the hair products to do my personal item hand washing whilst I'm away. Much better than soap, they smell nice and dry more quickly if you add conditioner :)

There are no doubt hospitals in other states that could use similar donations. I'm currently in the US, but I'm going to do a big purge of the bathroom cabinets and donate a bunch of unused stuff when I get home - hopefully it will make someone in hospital feel a little less awful!

I suspect there will be issues with the items not being sealed.

I give mine to a friend who passes them on to a women's shelter. If women are fleeing their home, they rarely stop to gather toiletries.

A lot of them *are* sealed. All the toothbrushes/toothpastes tend to come in a small plastic pouch. Quite a lot of the small bottles have stickers on the side.

Because the toiletries are in small convenient travel size portions. And not available at the size for retail purchase so you can't buy them. If you could buy them, perhaps they wouldn't get taken so much. Well that's why I sometimes take them and not because I don't want to pay for them. Toilet paper is the same anywhere so taking it just because you can is just a bit scroogish to me.

Ozmark, I'm betting most people don't do it.

Emma, not sure if that bathroom is an upgrade but its a picture of the bathroom of the room standard we booked. So looking good. :)

When you have stayed there just when leaving ... suggest taking a photo from the same angle etc. will all freebies removed or used !

When travelling in Asia, you need to have it (the TP) on you at all times, maybe that's why they leave an extra?
 
The Pink Ladies movement at our local public hospital (Coffs Harbour Base Hospital) welcomes donations of these items and sell them to patients for a nominal amount to aid the hospital's ancillary facilities. I am sure the Pink Ladies elsewhere do the same. They do a wonderful job.

Bits of old soap should never be thrown out, especially if well perfumed. They deter moths and silverfish and help stored clothing maintain a clean smell, rather than a musty one. Put them in pockets of garments at risk in the wardrobe. Don't forget to remove them before wearing.

I should add that I am a very happily married male.
