Welcome to the forum.

I believe that classic award seats are initially released online 353 days in advance, at 00:00 GMT... that would be at 10:00am AEDT.

How many seats are you looking for? Because Qantas may only release one or two seats... And depending on the flight you want, and how competitive it is, someone may beat you to it.

Nonetheless, good luck!

Thanks Mattg

trying for Mel-Lon around 20th Dec 2015 - so will start looking at 10am to see if that is when they cross over from one day to the next.

cheers

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Another option is to search MEL/SYD/BNE-HKG-LHR as you'll find CX availability already up for post 20th.... I recently booked 4xJ to Rome for similar dates that you require.

Good luck.

Thanks Mattg

So if you're in MEL it will be 1100 AEDST. I would have a practice run trying to book seats on an earlier date and get familiar with the QF site and how it works just so you're not learning the hard way by making a mistake with your real booking!

You don't mention whether you're wanting business or economy but if it's the latter, a lot of people often find there's not always a huge difference between using points plus paying taxes on top of that as opposed to just buying an airfare that could also have the benefit of accruing frequent points.

Just a few questions:

a) How many people is it for?
b) How many points do you currently have?
c) Do you know how many points are required for the tickets?
d) Are the points to be used all in the one account or do you need to do a family transfer first to the main account?

Most importantly make sure there's been some kind of activity on your QF freq flyer account in the last 18 months such as points earned from flights credited to the account, Woollies shopping via the Everyday Rewards card. If there is no activity within 18 months your points will be wiped so make sure to check all freq flyer accounts in your household so you can transfer the points from those accounts to the QF ff member in your family whose points will be used for the award tickets.

...
that's not so much the case in peak season ...

At 11am Melbourne time today, seats for the 16th December 2015 became available to book.
