Best Seats Pair in Qantas A380 First for a couple?

Am looking forward to travelling with Mrs TheFergus in First on the Qantas A380 and expect we will miss the side by side config of the 747 first cabin - Can anyone advise if sitting across the aisle from each other is any more (or less) convenient than sitting in single file on the A380? It appears to me we wouldn't even be able to see eachother across the aisle?

Yeah, they're offset. Not well set up for couples, unfortunately.

Re: Best Seats Pair in Qantas A380 First for a couple?

We flew F SYD-LAX on the A380 late last year. We sat in 4K and 5K. As indicated above, there are no two good seats for a couple but remember you can choose to dine together which is quite comfortable and whoever sits on the ottoman can still get out during the meal if needed. Then it was just movies and sleep.

My wife and I also like to sit on the sides, one in front of the other. My preference is 5K / 4K as I feel those seats have the best privacy (you can see across from row F to row A when the privacy screens are down), and 5A is adjacent to a crew locker so you can be disturbed during sleep by the light inside the locker.

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I have travelled in both the A row and the K row on the 388 in F. My flights are generally QF32 to or from London via Singapore. I have done the LAX to SYD once when John Howard (former PM) was seated in 3A. I think 1A and 5A and 1K and 5K have more exposure to disturbance because of their proximity to the galley in 5 and the toilets in 1. I prefer 2, 3 or 4 and find them adequately private. The A side has the least amount of passers by. Avoid the centre row for the obvious reasons. No matter which seat, its the only way to fly !!

Interesting you say that A has less traffic, as that traditionally isn't the case IMHO.

I have selected 2K for my upcoming LAX-MEL sojourn. Should I change it to 2A or 3A you reckon?

I've just done 2 trips SYD-LHR rtn on the A380. Had 1K out and 5A return. Preferred 1K as I did notice some noise overnight from the galley whilst in 5A much more so than the noise of foot traffic to the toilet when seated in 1K.
Honestly no really bad seats here though but I would probably stick with the window rows as they give more of a "suite" feel and it's fun to play with the shades

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

I've been in 1K and 5K. Much preferred 5K. Didn't notice much noise from the galley in 5K, but heard the toilet every time it was flushed in 1K (maybe I have super hearing :)), and also found that every time someone walked through the curtains to the forward area (toilets, etc), the light would shine in my eyes.

The little shelf thing next to the seat in 5K was also bigger than in 1K - more room to sit stuff.

I've been in 5A three times now and love it.

Only once did I notice sometime nighttime noise from the galley (slight).... But with the headphones on it's fine.

What I love about it is the privacy, no-one walks past, no-one looks in when returning from the toilet (something I felt was unavoidable when I returned to my seat).

On reflection I would accept the slight risk of noise for the upside of privacy :)

I have been in 1A, 5A, 3K, and 4K. 5A is definitely the most private, but there is a little galley noise to contend with.

... yeah ... a mid-flight FA social club often forms in the gallery between First and economy.

In my recent walkthroughs I've noticed this social club in the Y galley in front of 50C, but there was no social noise from the F galley, just the occasional sounds from carts, trays, ovens etc.

But "slight" is the correct term.

Maybe it depends on the FAs and the effort they make to be quiet..??

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

The social club is just like the water-cooler at most workplaces. Some days, it's pretty quite, other days rowdy.

It's really the one galley:

There's actually not a lot of physical distance between 5A and 50C (although a whole would of difference).

(From 50C I was able to watch the tailcam on seat F5's screen while landing into MEL ealier this month.)

That's true - it really is crew dependent.

I had a similar experience on a LAX-MEL flight. The noise from the galley on that occasion was annoying. The experience in 5A has been mixed - one noisy and one quiet.

True but you know what I meant...

There is that bulkhead or whatever in the middle there, and I tended to find the Y FAs hanging out on the 50 side and the F FAs hanging out on the 5 side.....

The imaginary line seemed pretty powerful at least ;)

Re: QF A380 F seating for singles - help settle my mind

Have done 2A, 4A, and 4K, am a fan of the 'A' side for less traffic, wasn't too concerned about the 'F' people being able to slightly see me (most people put up the divider).

When I was in 4A had a look back to 5K, which looked great for room but they were using the bassinet.

If it was me would be happy with any of the 'A' side but would have 1A last on the list as the toilet is right there (not that I have experienced it)

I've never noticed any problem with 1A which is where I've always been.
