What I ate today - the food thread

You are so disciplined.

I struggled for years with the weight. Took me 6 months of slog and cravings and temptation to get to ideal weight. 6 months to keep it off. Not going back.

The worst is "friends" who say just once or a little now and again won't hurt

Edit: ironically one of the barriers to break was to unlearn all the stuff I'd been told about food since a kid. Eggs, meat, cream, cheese, high protein, high fat foods, nuts, actually reduced my weight, reduced my chloresterol, and boosted my thyroid. No or very little fruit (other than berries) helped a lot as well. And it's not how much you eat, but what you eat.

Txoko Brewery/ Restaurant in Baskerville on the eastern edge of the Swan Valley. My sign was putting up an illuminated indoor sign for them so we, and his wife, went along for a meal. The food was really nice. They are still relatively new in the business and still refining both the food and the beers they brew.

Tasting plate. My son used his new Laser Cutter to do the logo on the paddle. The two ales on the right were very nice. I have never met a Brown Ale that I like. The Big Double on the far left was also nice but you really noticed the 9% alcohol content.

Fried Brussels Sprouts with Sour Cherry and Cranberry Dressing, Prague Ham and Toasted Hazelnuts.

Swan2.jpg

Wood fire roasted Cauliflower. With White Anchovy Aioli, Salsa Verde and Truffle Oil. Very tasty indeed.

Swan3.jpg

Wood fire Roasted Pork Belly. With Smoked Onion Puree, Roasted Turnips and Roasted and Pickled Quince. The pork was crispy on top and pull-apart soft underneath.

Swan4.jpg

Porco Rosso Pizza. Shaved Ham, Chorizo, Pork Belly, Scomorza (Stretched Curd Cheese), Pickled Apple & Fresh Rocket. I am not a Pizza fan but it tasted pretty good. Done in the wood oven again.

Crème brûlée & Strawberry Cheesecake - both made in-house.

My breakfast, lunch and dinner today:

I listened to Norman Swan talking about diet and the importance of your waist circumference. It has shocked me into action to take off 2 kg of over recent eating. Then my clothes will be more comfortable too.
The first day is the hardest. And, I’m not going to look at the photos of the delish food on here. 👍

A noble cause and you have my support all the way.

[However I lost 27kg in 6 months without missing a meal and actually eating more than I did the previous 6 months. Its what you eat and how often you eat, not how much you eat.]

Continuing to experiment with home made icecream. 4th try. Not bad outcome.

Trying to get extra creamy & scoopable without having to take it out of the freezer 10-15 minutes ahead of time & without the use of sugar, a machine or nasty chemicals is a fine balance of ingredients.

Blueberry this time

Forgot to take a pic but we used left over pita bread and above charcoal chicken from last night with some salad for lunch for greek chicken tacos :) . I dont usually have lunch when WFH but sat outside on our new budget deck (on a milk crate-furniture is coming) and enjoyed.

Intrigued to get more info on the deck order you made. Did you specify the timber sizes for the decking and posts, quick set concrete etc, and it was all delivered just so? The bit you showed seemed very good. :)

No real plan but a hole with those joist/hold the beam thingies and quick cement and heaps of sleepers and a couple cross beams. Priced up a frame and decking boards vs sleepers and sleepers won, our house isnt a showplace so as long as it holds together and does the job we're happy. As hubby says our house is 4 trucks to the tip so we're not building anything for resale.

Bunnings charged $90 for delivery, well worth it as timber was min 3mtr. This weekend we're going to get some concrete blocks/large pavers for the Weber to have its permanent home and this is where we'll be enjoying our summer dinners... once the furniture arrives

The rear of our house is shaded every afternoon and in summer we get a nice cool breeze coming through that side. Hubby is talking about a shade cloth but I dont see the point - will see what happens. The furniture is this, long enough for hubby to nap on and the table is high enough to eat on and still room on the deck to move things around, have his other chair, side table and ottoman ect. Again, its just us so no point in spending $$$$ for something thats outside 24/7
