This is not an April Fools Day joke and I haven't booked a Jetstar flight.

But I have booked 2 Tiger flights! I needed to be in Sydney in 2 weeks time but both Virgin and Qantas have ridiculous prices that weekend. So it is Tiger on the way down OOL-SYD in 2C and SYD-BNE in 4C. Airfares were not as cheap as I expected.

Now to nervously count down the days....

Why why and again I ask why,

Did you check prices out of MCY

MCY flights are unsuitable.

OOL-SYD 6,900 + $18.71 in economy
SYD-OOL 13,800 + $18.71 in business

Decided against it.

Those award rates aren't too shabby so it would have been a viable option IMHO.

What's on in 2 weeks? End of school holidays perhaps?

Tiger flights were ~$160 which would value the Virgin award bookings at ~0.675/Velocity point which is a little higher than the value of ~0.5/Velocity point I place on them and i was hoping to redeem for something a little more memorable/enjoyable than an OOL-SYD flight.

The other factor was it has taken me ~7 years to accumulate ~40,000 Velocity points and it would be a shame to burn haff those points on an OOL-SYD regardless of cabin flown.

That could be the answer.

In my experience the later in the day your TT flight is, the higher the chance there will be a problem with it (never had an issue with am flights).

This was before the grounding though (haven't flown with them since and never will again) - I know they have a lot better OTP now.

Oh dear.

Given the average delay for you on VA/QF is in the order of 60-90 minutes, I'm guessing you'll have a 60-90 hour delay on Tiger......

FWIW, what did the other options price at (roughly)?

You will be fine. Mind you I haven't flown Tiger since the grounding. I prefer Jetstar price beat. Not sure what the current situation is but I think that straight after the grounding Tiger stopped having on line check in. This means you have to be at the airport 45 mins before hand plus a suitable buffer. With Jetstar or any of the airlines you can online check the realistic deadline is when the second last person boards because is not as if they are going to stop boarding half way through.

I am surprised you didn't do Jetstar price beat too. You sound to me to be a bloke who likes to save a dollar and you would then have Qantas club access and I am not sure if platinums get preferred seating (even if you don't pay)

Lets hope it all goes well because if it doesn't you can imagine the thread!!

Also look on the bright side - there will be no debates over which toilets or overhead lockers are for exclusive use by business class passengers!!

You have simply made a terrible terrible unforgiveable mistake.

jetstar price beat all the way, I just got a JQ flight that was priced SYD-MEL $349 for $59 after calling and matching to tiger. hehe, they were dreaming at $349 but i liked seeing the $1400 for 4 persons being turned into $236!

I love price beat but I do also realize that as a consumer I am doing the wrong thing because the traveling public benefits from tiger regardless on whether you fly them.

The other thing about Tiger is JohnK should like them. They have very clear rules and they stick to them. There are no many threads on here saying they should be lenient here or play favorites here.

LCC golden rule. Understand their rules and play by them. If you do that you have next to no interaction with their staff so generally don't have much to complain about.

This could be the end of TT as we know it. :) Their on time record will surely suffer. Maybe we should get the odds on when it will be cancelled?

I don't mind Tiger but without the ability to online check-in I am forced to stand in a ridiculous queue even with no baggage to speak to a real person. With Jetstar I print my boarding pass at home and waltz on to the plane, or if I have time I can sit in the Qantas lounge. Tiger need online check-in!

I think Virgin at one stage was ~$230 and Qantas was ~$240 but as I left it longer the price went higher and the availability on a lot of flights gone. I could have used Velocity points but saw that as poor value.

I could have purchased Tiger at ~$145 a week ago but purchased the current airfares at ~$160. The seat allocations are probably much better than I could do on Virgin but it means my laptop bag stays behind and I just take my carryon bag up to 10kgs.

Only problem is having to be there ~2 hours before flight and then waiting around without laptop bag. Unless I take laptop bag with me and forget carryon bag. The flights are ~1 week before I go to Thailand so realistically I do not need to ferry anything between BNE and SYD anyway.

I am surprised you didn't do Jetstar price beat too.
Unfortunately I am a stubborn old sod and don't do Jetstar. Oh well.

You need bad days in your life to keep the good days in perspective. If Boss Reggie can fly to the other side of the world in Y, I'm sure John K will survive a short hop with Tiger. Even if he does spend an hour or two on the Tarmac.
