What have I done?

I would fly Tiger is the fare is really cheap. However for $160 I would rather spend the points on VA.

Anyway good luck JohnK, they are not as bad as it sounds, providing that they leave and arrive on time. I have travelled with them before and most of the time had great experiences until they decided to cancel my flight on my sixth time I fly with them. I have flown VA since.

I don't mind Tiger but without the ability to online check-in I am forced to stand in a ridiculous queue even with no baggage to speak to a real person. With Jetstar I print my boarding pass at home and waltz on to the plane, or if I have time I can sit in the Qantas lounge. Tiger need online check-in!

couldn't agree more. That is the tipping point for me. They used to have online check-in, in fact I think they had it before anyone else.

Surely it is a cost saving to have it.

This is not an April Fools Day joke and I haven't booked a Jetstar flight.

But I have booked 2 Tiger flights! I needed to be in Sydney in 2 weeks time but both Virgin and Qantas have ridiculous prices that weekend. So it is Tiger on the way down OOL-SYD in 2C and SYD-BNE in 4C. Airfares were not as cheap as I expected.

Now to nervously count down the days....

I felt exactly the same way as you last week.....but not when I booked (although I wished I had a better choice when booking)...while I was on and after each flight! Mine was slightly different as they were international sectors.....and opposite to you....I was wishing I WAS on a Jetstar flight LOL

I don't know if domestic is the same as international...but if it is at least row 2 back you don't have to fight for overhead space due to safety equipment like "upfront" row 1 does.....

What? They don't have online check-in?! Why on earth not? I would have thought its a massive cost saving because it decreases the need for check-in staff?!

Thats a tipping point for me too then. The MEL T4 'terminal' (shed) is horrible and not somewhere I would want to spend any amount of time. There's not enough seating (people sit and lie on the floor), there's no windows, and it has the atmosphere of an emergency hospital waiting room.

If there's no lounge I have no desire to arrive at the airport early, regardless of carrier.

I am not looking forward to the zoo that is OOL airport on Friday night but hey such is life.

Waiting for check-in and then the wait at security will be a nightmare but to me a $100 saving is much more important than a few hours inconvenience. The way I see it is the more I save the more trips I can plan overseas.

I do not mind sitting on floor or I could have a beer or 2 in one of the cafes. From memory there is one at OOL arrivals so can have a beer or 2 there while watching TV or posting on AFF. I do not need to board early as I will have one bag that should in theory be able to fit under the seat in front.

Still a little nervous but keen to give Tiger a chance and who knows they may end up replacing Virgin as my second carrier of choice when Qantas is just that little bit expensive.

Can't wait to hear JohnK's review on Tiger have not been game to try them myself after my daughter was bumped Tiger Mark 1. I do believe that they are much better now, but no doubt JK will let us know in due course...

But.. as a distinct diversion.. the JQ flight crew ladies are usually more of a charm on the Friday evenings OOL/SYD ;)

But my observations on Tiger, were desirable: If you are a 20 yo backpacker or have 6 kids in tow.. on a tight budget.
At my age, I'm simply beyond that.

Is there any QF award seats OOL/SYD just incase TT goes U/S?

If the airport is closed due wx I know JQ bus pax up to BNE & put on QF if nil JQ alternative.

Don't know what TT's option is. I guess either wait it out at own expense at OOL until airporf reopens or get a refund in full from TT then buy a new ticket ex BNE on QF or VA of course having to make your own way back to BNE Apt.

Not that I'm trying to jinx you or anything!

JohnK, you've never received any love from QF, apparently, so I wonder if TT is a new begininning? Op-up from cargo to cabin on the cards?

Do the lounge dragons check BPs at OOL? Just wondering...
I have no hope unless someone guests me.

I think VA has availability but I can just come back to BNE and Tiger can issue a full refund. It would be nice to be in SYD but not the end of the world if not able to get there.

At ool, I was able to enter the DJ lounge before my scoot flight to sin. Showed my card, mumbled how I wasn't flying DJ that day but instead scoot and is it OK to pop in if its not too busy.

Now that was a while ago and rules have been tightened up but... remember being nice and honest can sometimes work in your favour.

Re route cost might be covered by card or travel insurance... something to investigate. (Similar happened to me when air Australia stranded me in bne... I purchased a DJ j flight and claimed it off insurance)

That is a debatable in my situation.

Travel insurance is purchased with home address in SYD and most flights are purchased return from BNE/OOL or in this case 2 one ways OOL-SYD and SYD-BNE. So not sure how Travel insurance would see the delays regarding point of origin.

I do not need to be in SYD until Saturday afternoon so hoping no weather related delays.

Best of luck JohnK - let us know what the loads are like on TT between OOL-SYD and SYD-BNE. With 4 options between OOL-SYD I am particularly interested in how TT are going there.

From what I can see NSW, ACT SA school holidays start on 15th April and NT VIC and QLD school holidays end on 14th April so that may explain the higher fares than expected seen at QF VA and JQ etc

I find this line fascinating. For me, a few hours work could net much more than that, so I wouldn't bother with the experiment...
What work? I would still have to get to the airport flying VA or QF.

As I am paying for all these flights I do not want to spend more than $100 per flight. All I am missing is some lounge time. Not such a big deal.

Fair enough if it is leisure travel.

My concern is a few extra hours on TT may turn into an entire day fairly easily.
