What happened to seats opening at t-80

Seats can be changed using the Qantas app as well. Handy when T-80 arrives and you're on a train in Sydney, just make the change on the phone.

Another reference point. Same lowly PS and SG travelling PER to SIN. Entire Y opened up at T-80. Snagged row 4 aisle and window.

Couple of examples that are at <T-72 now:

Expert flyer availability:

Currently selectable on QF app (as WP):

You can see that 4E/F are still blocked even after T-80.

Another example from Expert flyer:

And on QF app:

This time only 2DEF blocked still (and no platinum shadow either! Grr)

pshepvic I had a similar experience last weekend, though I got 4A for myself in both directions, and had a shadow in both directions, I was pretty happy.
I figured I was lucky and it wasn't the norm but it still made me feel special and the question about whether I try to retain QF v. VA platinum harder! (but I dont' think I can maintain QF so that'll probably make my decision for me)

That's me in 4A and 4C above - if prefer aisle though so it annoys me it's still blocked for the flight out!

Sorry to bump this thread, I hope this isn't too OT but it's the most relevant thread I could find!

I know T-80 definitely applies to domestic flights, but does it apply to international? I'm flying QF127 (744) soon and the only seats I could get were in the main cabin. I can see from expert flyer there's 1AB, 2A in the front cabin blocked off, and 11JK upstairs blocked off.

Will these seats open up at T-80 or will they remain blocked off for CL/WP1/WP? I'm only bronze and the booking is an Asia Miles redemption, you reckon they'd pity me if I called up the QF line, or is this unlikely?

Yes it applies to international as well. As an SG only Row 6 and back is open for selection trans-tasman, but at T-80 rows 4 and 5 open up for selection provided they haven't been blocked or otherwise selected by a WP1 or CL. Same experience on a 388 to LHR and back. No good seats available in upper deck Y when booking, but at T-80 a bunch of upper deck Y seats released.

I've also got 744 flight on QF127 coming up and currently have row 46 selected and hoping at T-80 to get a seat in the first 2 rows of Y...provided my upgrade doesn't clear.

That's great, thanks :) ... I guess I'll try and set my alarm for 4am so I can get the pick of what's unblocked.

I have a feeling they might leave 1AB blocked, but we'll have to wait and see!

It's not always that the unblocking occurs at exactly T-80 - it can be much closer to depart time. It seems to be any time from T-80.

If you have EF, set an alert for when your desired seats become available and let EF do the hunting work for you.

Sometimes I've been checked in and in the lounge when an EF alert for 1A or 1K has come through. Quick dash to the desk and snare a new BP.

Yeah I've noticed it also isn't at exactly T-80 for international flights, but generally between T-70 to T-80. EF alerts are great but sometimes I've noticed that sometimes there is a delay of 1-2 hours in the seat being opened and EF sending the alert out.

That's my experience too.

That's because EF doesn't poll the seat map continuously but rather periodically, the frequency of which is determined by their own algorithm.

I have not seen 'T-80' applying so much to international flights as it does to domestic. International seat maps can open up 5 days before the flight, sometime one or two days. I can also vary with routes such as trans-tasman opening later then trans-pacific.

For mine, the best advice is to keep checking those international flights the entire preceding week.

Good to know, thanks Serfty! I guess I'll go back to checking the seat map every few hours like a madman :p

So it looks like the seat map has been 'unlocked'... however now there are fewer seats available than before!

KVS is showing 7 J seats on the flight available, however the seat map is only showing the seat next to me as being available. Does anyone know why this has happened? Is it likely to go through another stage of being unlocked before the flight?

It seems like Qantas is just locking everyone in to their current seat allocation by not freeing blocked seats and blocking seats that were previously available.
