What does 'Passive Rentension' on a flight booking mean?

I've seen the words 'Passive Retension' printed twice before on my flight bookings. Once on a domestic melb-syd qantas ticket and again recently on my international booking on a star alliance itinery. Does anyone know what this means?
 
There is no such phrase in the English language - what they really mean is that you are seen as being cough Retentive.

Fine. I have no idea what it means but if you got any special treatment then please tell me so I can paste the phrase onto my next boarding pass.

Although, I thought, from postings on AFF - QF used the term CIP (Commercially Important Person)... as to acknowledge someone as a "Passive Retentive", before they fly, would seem anachronistic!

Perhaps, if you're not a rock/movie star, pollie or person of commercial influence, your name is similar to someone who is?

Any large business worth its salt, would be focussed on their competitors' Passive Retention failures!

Passive Retentive, is a risk management term. (In business, at least.)

Perhpas it has something to do with passive segments in GDS land.

The term appears to be more associated with psychoanalysis.

Yeah, the thread title should read 'retension' and not 'rentension', and also should not to be confused with 'retention'. Anyway, this is what is currently showing up on my itinery in the 'other information' section at the moment.

City: SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (SYD) Status: Confirmed Information: PASSIVE RETENSION

I don't even know why Sydney shows up in the city field as I live in Melbourne..

As I am having trouble understanding what “particular” part of Qantas is advising you have “Passive Retension”... if you are using Windows*, can you please -
  • Press the “PrtScn” (Print Screen) button on your keyboard (while the qantas website is visible, showing this 'description').
  • Open the Program (in the Accessories folder - START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>PAINT ) named “Paint”.
  • While this program is active, hold down the “Ctrl” (Control) button on your keyboard and press the “v” key.
  • Use the “pencil” (default) or any other brush, to scrub over any identifying items in the picture. (e.g. your name, flight number, frequent flyer number...)
  • Use “Save As” to save the image as a jpeg/jpg file.
  • Login into AFF & "Post A Reply", AND scroll down the "Reply to Thread" page and click the “manage attachments” button (in the AFF page under "Additional Options"), and upload the view of what you are looking at into this thread.

Also try alt+prt scrr as that will only capture the active window - so dont have to edit out all the other rubbish happening in the background
 
And I thought it meant you were travelling on a flight where all the lavatories were non-functional!

OT I know but d15, I have often wondered why so many of your posts end up in, (or include in the body of the text) such small font sizes.

Perhaps it is a post-modern writing style, evolving from Marshal McLuhan’s claim – “the medium is the message”. It’s also industrial – in an advertising & legal industry sense. Perhaps I LOVE “pop art” ala Robert Indiana. At a base level, I like the balance it brings visually.

(Maybe commercially distributed printing for the last few centuries, has constrained the European use of font styles and sizings - for logistical reasons. However, for millennia, Asians have seen the great physical beauty in writing their languages, why shouldn’t we with ours? Today’s technology allows us to move beyond - just a fancy first character at the start of a chapter.)

The physicalness of moving from a bold italic type to a smaller font was also designed to promote thought about; the grammatical change which I had made to the term of discussion. Picked up quite nicely by stryker!

So my implication is also about how Qantas might possibly be classifying its customers (using psychoanalysis).

For example, Question 2, on the Qantas First Lounge Experience “Comment Card” is –
Travelling evokes many feelings. How do you feel now:
  • Excited
  • Anxious
  • Surprised
  • Grateful
  • Frustrated
  • Calm
  • Angry
  • Tense
  • Valued
  • Stressed
  • Special
  • Worried
  • Impressed
  • Dissatisfied
  • Welcomed
(Of course any successful relationship is based on communication & understanding… That is why “Sales Promotion” exists as a marketing channel, as it allows oneONone interaction, which can be adapted and tailored to each customer. So why should a business not move that understanding into their automated/online relationships?)

Overall & originally, I had thought the Thread was an amusing joke Thread, obviously incorrectly. And the OP was making some kind of ironic statement about Qantas losing the OP’s business… A lot of my posts on AFF recently, have revolved around the perception that Qantas Club Bronze & Silver Frequent Flyers could be considered a Passive Retention Risk to Qantas. passive retention risk - Google Search

The open honesty of placing this analysis directly into someone’s visible profile, had me in stitches when I first read this thread.

I assume you are using the latest "Internet Explorer" on Windows... if so, down in the bottom right corner is a + magnifying glass 100%. Click it once to make the page you are viewing 25% bigger, click twice for 50%, and the third click takes it all back to normal sizes! The post modern world is interactive and adjustable!
 
D15 you have achieved the impossible - a writing style that is even more annoying than the smiley junkies. Hopefully you will be FF's first and last font-freak, and the rest of us will learn how to write proper good english without all the unnecessary clutter.

After all the delightful exposition above I almost bore myself to bring this back on thread and answer the question.......

An 'active booking' is one where a booking really exists - so a 'passive' one is a dummy booking put in by an agent - could be done for a number of reasons.

PNRs purge out of the GDS a set number of days after the last segment has been flown, but in order to retain them longer in the system (typically for corporate reporting purposes) a passive retension segment is entered by the travel consultant.....

I am sure my answer was closest! It did have something to do with a passive segment :)
