What do you do to save Hotel laundry charges?

Donate your dirty clothes to a charity shop and then buy them back for a few dollars after they've been washed and ironed.

I usually pack enough clean underwear for the whole trip and if necessary just drop stuff at a drycleaners in the city I am in.

I wash my undies, swimmers in the bathroom sink, place between two bathtowels on the floor and jump up and down on top of them before hanging up to dry.

My biggest worry / issue when drying between towels are:
  • Towels can leave lint behind on clothes, which need to be dusted off or removed with a lint brush. Lint threatens to be the death of me at times.
  • After drying a few clothes, towels become wet - you need to wait until they dry out, or get more towels.
  • Towels are sometimes laundered in strong chemicals (bleach?) which leaves the same smell on the clothes.

How do you normally account for these?

Lint on undies = no issue (unless on hot date ;) )
Usually enough towels in the room to dry the entire Shrek family even if its only little old me staying there
I wash using Tide. The fragrance from Tide travel sink packs would give A&F Fierce a run for its money

Old Navy trick. Don't jump up and down on the towel. Roll them up in the towel (like a long sausage) put your foot on one end and twist the other end like buggery!!! Wrings them out loverly!

I also do this...it works quite well

I wash clothes in the sink or the bath when I need to.
I use the hotels guest laundry when I need to.
Have used other laundry options when I need to... Note that some cities have smelly water and this will often be a bad option in them.

Can't recall ever paying for laundry in a hotel.

+1, most recently done on the weekend ...

I also use the roll in towel trick. Taught it to my very clever daughter on our recent trip:)

I find that using inflatable hangers means the front and back of shirts or blouses are separated and they dry quicker.

The switch to energy efficient light globes has reduced my ability to get socks and smalls dried quickly using floor or table lamps.

I've never had my laundry done by a hotel. If I haven't been able to find a laundromat or a laundry which does a bag of clothes at a reasonable price (and I usually can0, I just use the sink, and carry a small clothes line with me. We are going on a Mediterranean cruise next year, and the laundry prices are ridiculous (although an iron is supplied). Bathroom sink for us.

I'm lazy, I pay the hotel to wash/dry/iron all my clothes!

Ditto - work pays for it!

However I'm keen to find a cheaper option, any recommendations on a good dry cleaner/laundromat in Canberra, preferably in Civic, Manuka, Kingston....

I have washed shirts, socks, trousers, and smalls in the sink. Not because of hotel laundry costs, mainly because my Hilton Diamond maintenance strategy rarely allowed me to be in the same hotel for two consecutive nights for the first six months of the year!!!

Good "wrinkle" free clothes are key for me. Traveler shirts from Thomas Pink (100% cotton...of course), M&S wrinkle free trousers and chinos, make life a little easier. I do like to have an iron and ironing board in the room.

I have never tried the steam trick, so I'll have to give it a go.

If staying for more than 1 night and no laundry available, Wash in the sink, put out the do not disturb sign and hang stuff everywhere, being careful it doesnt leave watermarks on furniture etc. leave heater/ac on full
