What DAY here will Velocity ''see'' Cook Island flight of Oct 22?

Weird question. Hopefully someone will know how precisely they measure flight departures? :)

In October we fly Cook Is, RAR-AKL, 10:10pm on Tues Oct 22, (here Oct 23 I think!?) arriving Auckland 1.50am Thurs Oct 24, (11.50pm AEST Oct 23) due to weirdness of the International Date Line.

HOPEFULLY Virgin “sees” that flight as leaving Oct 23 for their Velocity accounting purposes?

We then fly Oct 24, late afternoon AKL-MEL-SYD. So Hopefully Virgin “see” those as Oct 24 flights?

I want to, when arriving in AKL Oct 24, change family pooling other way.

Flights are all Biz class on the Double SC deal, so a lot of SC here - 920 each passenger.

Do Velocity tend to log flights to accounts based on the exact conversion of the depart time in AEST?

Also family pooling doesn’t update immediately.

Yes if all flights were going into my account or a family pooling not being altered, I would not worry.

But in this case I am keen to swap over the flights AKL-MEL-SYD to a different Family Pooling than the RAR-AKL.

Which gets me back to my real question - I guess when you change FP it takes place from midnight AUSTRALIA time AFTER you make the change online correct?

Yes it is tricky for adjusting HERE Family Pooling. :)

RAR is 4 hours ahead but back a day. i.e. it is about 1pm WEDNESDAY there now.

So my 4 hour flight leaving RAR 10.10pm there, Oct 22, is 2.10am here Oct 21, it seems, on Virgins Family Pooling clock?

Our flights AKL-MEL-SYD leave 4pm AKL time Oct 24, (not sure how it gets to Oct 24!) as it is 18 hours after we leave RAR, so will presumably it will be Oct 24 on Velocity clock?

12:48 pm - Wednesday, 21 August 2019 (GMT-10) Current Time in Rarotonga

So altering Virgin FP clock when we are in AKL will however still see all flights AKL-SYD show as the SAME ''day' to Velocity as RAR-AKL on our accounts? If the Velocity clock changes at AEST midnight AFTER you alter it?

This is doing my head in!

My understanding is that flights are credited in line with takeoff to the timezone: Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT+10)

Something like that was what I assumed might be the case. Would get messy in there unless there was common ground zero timeline they used for all flights. Thanks for the helpful response.

Flights credit to the date shown on your boarding pass. What day it is in Australia is irrelevant unless the flight is taking off from an Aussie airport.

Well if that is the case, my problems are all solved. :p

That also sounds like a plausible way for Velocity to handle flights on multi days like mine above.

Thanks for that input. Certainly sounds like the answer is by no means clear cut.

Flights will credit to the (scheduled) day of departure local time.

This is correct. So much discussion ignoring a correct answer in post #2 :p

This is hardly an unusual case. All the evening departures from LAX are +2 arrivals.

No, see above.

Well it just seems we have 2 totally different opinions above.

Which one is correct, I sadly have no idea.

Post #2 is correct - even if the flight is delayed by 2 hours and departs after midnight local time.

RAR is UTC-10, AEST is UTC+10, so the flight is scheduled to depart at 6:10pm AEST on Oct 23rd.

Daylight saving starts in AKL on September 29th, so the flight is scheduled to land at 10:50pm AEST on 23rd October. (It may be 11:50pm in Sydney, but it will be an hour earlier in BNE which stays on AEST. [The T&C's do not refer to daylight savings for family pooling.])
14.12 When a Contributing Account is added to a Family Pool, the change will be effective from 00:01 (AEST) on the date the Family Pool is established. All of a Contributing Account’s Points or Points and Status Credits will be pooled to the Beneficiary Account from this date.

14.13 When a Contributing Accounts is removed from a Family Pool, the change will be effective from 23:59 (AEST) on the date the change is made. The Contributing Account’s Points or Points and Status Credits will no longer be pooled to the Beneficiary Account from this date.

So it seems if I change the pooling when we hit AKL, and fly out Oct 24, all flights thereafter pool differently to the RAR-AKL which is on ''Oct 23'' Velocity time based on Serfty's handy math?

As posted, our flights AKL-MEL-SYD leave 4pm AKL time Oct 24, (not sure how it gets to Oct 24!) as it is 18 hours after we leave RAR, but will presumably it will be Oct 24 on Velocity clock?

Dug out Velocity Rules whilst Sefty was doing the same, and they seem to be clear that 00:01 (AEST) on the date the Family Pool is established is all that matters to them. No matter what day is on any boarding pass?

Yes you appear to be snookered.

So for the purposes of what I was hoping to achieve - the sole purpose of starting this thread, it seems we are not snookered after all?

Based on that it appears the ex-RAR flight will be “seen” as the 22nd (local day of departure), and if you call / log in from AKL on the 24th, then if they backdate to 0001hrs AEST on the 24th, then it would seem based on that T&C then the pooling will work for you.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the input above folks - seems like this rather complicated puzle worked out in the end!

It was the sort of issue the Plat desk would probably have been happy to sort, as it was pretty complex, but best not to wear out the welcome wagon in there. 😂

Please let us know how you go. Hopefully it all just works.
