What credit card do you use as a sidekick to your AMEX?

Has anyone compared the forex exchange rate (not sure if my terminology is correct) on the coles rewards? Currently using the CBA smart awards overseas and looks pretty solid (only charging circa 30cents more than what the google exchange says on a 500aud transaction)

Was wondering if the coles exchange would be the same or worse off, just as a backup.

They're both Mastercard so the rate should be identical.
The way the Mastercard (and Visa) rates work is that they're set each day and used for that day, which is why you might see a slight difference between the card rate and the spot rate that Google shows.

So far my experience has been positive using the Coles rewards card for international transactions. Never had a disappointment with the currency conversion offered , never tried visa variant of other banks though.

I have the AMEX VA card and the FOC return ticket is only for ex east coast is for a flight on the east side with ADL the furtherst, however ex PER you can fly SYD but not in reverse - what an aboslute JOKE. I think someone with AMEX needs there heads screwed on clockwise instead of anticlockwise. LOL hence the anual fee of $395 is not worth it for the continuation of it ... its a short live term card to keep for 1yr to get Velocity Points.

if anyone has any ideas or ctc to speak to AMEX or VA please procoeed :) and advise.

CBA Ultimate for me also. As mentioned Points earning isn't great, but convert at set times of the year enhances that a little, the fee free providing you spend the minimum (which is increasing as has been talked about) and O/S transactions fee free makes this quite an attractive card to keep.

Do you use the CBA awards instead of QFF?

I’m sticking with CBA awards and taking advantage of the bonus points during conversation that come around a few times a year.

The increased $60 few to convert to Qantas is not worth it for the small points earn.

Have had the CBA Ultimate for a couple of years now, when I initially signed up, the Commbank home loan wealth package didn't cover the card, so there was a min. spend for no monthly fee.

But as of recently, the CBA Ultimate is now fee-free for wealth package holders and they have also upped food related spending to 0.8 QFF points.

Of all the cards on the market, I found this works really well for me, since I travel quite a bit and have a mortage with CBA. Using it overseas earns 1.2 QFF points and no international fee, makes so much more sense than using the Amex.

yep can confirm. its fee free now with the wealth package. A bit of a no brainer now and I make reasonable amount of international purchases.
