Apparently she swerved to avoid some idiot who cut across her path (whose been fined $700 for driving without DC&A) then was going far too fast to take the corner. Hit the island curb which lifted the car into the side of the bus. Extremely lucky bus empty and that there was a bus not another car.

Still incomprehensible that she just didn’t use the brake pedal instead of the accelerator.

Though panic can set in very quickly and your reflex action isn't what is intended- I've seen it a few times in hospital and supermarket car parks when folks get flustered.

WCMO is people who are oblivious of holding other people up by being incredibly leisurely and disorganised when they board a flight - particularly a delayed one.

And the twerp at HBA security today. Gone through the scanner thing, getting dressed at the finish end of the tub conveyor. God - 2 x metal studded boots, bunch of bangles etc; metal studded belt, other stuff, trench coat, hat ... OK - that's his wardrobe, but he was taking so long that the conveyor coming out of the x-ray had to stop because the tubs (all now empty - everyone else had collected their stuff and moved on) were backing up because he was stopped on the end & they couldn't go through to the collector. I collected some tubs to make room, pointedly walked close around him and dumped them into the collector next to him. He just continued in his own little world.

Finally, trench coat and funny hat on, he stepped back - to be called over to 'secondary' where another of his bags needed a second look. God knows what they found there. Wish I took a picture.

I was wondering that too. First up I'm glad no-one was hurt. But then being able to launch a Toyota Yaris like that, a car that has never been mentioned as 'high performance', airborne into the side of a bus is something that should be in a Bond movie, or failing that an episode of Ride or Die.

Yes but QLD drivers hate to use the brake pedal. If you join traffic quickly, the car ( particularly 4x4s) seem unable to lift foot off accelerator fir 30 seconds or use brake but just sit on horn then tailgate because you have had the audacity to use part of their road.

Epilogue: by the time we were off the plane in MUC we had 7 minutes to cover the ~800m down the terminal before our gate closed. Cue a mad sprint through the crowded terminal where only one of the 5 or so moving walkways was actually working. We made it, though my husband could barely hobble onto the plane having torn a calf muscle on the home stretch of our intra-terminal sprint with heavy carry-on (which I'd ensured had enough to keep us going for 24h in case our bags didn't make it... which of course they did not! )

Any medical bills may be covered under Montreal 99 here. If you are running between aircraft during transit that has been held to be related to the boarding of an aircraft, and airlines are liable for damages. Might be worth exploring if you are out of pocket.

Rather annoyed at the parking system at a certain shopping centre.

They say that parking after 5 pm is free of charge, every day. Otherwise, 3 hours free parking before they start charging. Naturally, as you do, the amount of time you park at the centre is coughulative per day (to stop cheesing the system by, say, parking for 2 h 50 m, then exiting, then re-entering to get more free parking).

So I park at around 4.50 pm, thinking that it's just 10 minutes. Normally, that would be a free parking period anyway. Once it hits 5 pm, all in the clear. Pretty standard practice as well with council parking meters (e.g. if you park within 15 minutes of the end of charged, metered parking, you just register for free parking up to the end of charged parking, then that's it - go on your merry way).

I eventually leave at around 9 pm. Get charged at the boom gate. Press the call service button in order to start a conversation to dispute the charge. Rings for 2 minutes without answering. Three cars behind me - no choice - paid the parking to get out, with the call still "ringing" when I left.

If this doesn't scream ridiculous.... or am I missing a key rationale here as to why their rules must be in place?

It probably is a common rule, but I don't think it's intuitively obvious that that would be how it's interpreted. I reckon I would have interpreted the same as the OP.

Thanks for this. He didn't seek serious medical attention (other than getting anti-inflammatories etc at a pharmac_) until returning home, as the pain started subsiding fairly rapidly, so I doubt that's claimable given the time elapsed. And the out of pocket isn't too bad given health insurance etc so I doubt the juice is worth the squeeze, but good to know it's an option.
