What cheeses me off

Oh where do we start this morning......
  • Once you step off an escalator, move away from the escalator. Unless you want to be shoved down and trampled upon. Don't look annoyed at me for pushing you. This is not the time to take a selfie for update your live viewers.
  • Paying for priority check-in and there is no such counter when you get to the airport.
  • Read screens - sometimes they actually contain useful information. Like at a passport e-gate, where it says press down hard on your passport on the reader, or please go see an agent for further assistance. Don't just stand there staring into space while your feeble hand appears to be placing the passport loosely on the reader glass, wondering if it's just technology being slow.
  • Don't press a button to summon a lift when a full lift hasn't left the floor yet and started moving. That just prolongs the agony for all of us.
  • One person through a walkthrough metal detector at a time, when directed by the officer. Think that's been the way for decades. Shoving through quickly and/or putting more than one through is the act of an idiot.
  • Don't use your little kid who can duck and weave through adults as a means to jump a queue.
  • Take your tray off the end of the screening belt / line once you're finished. Leaving it there to be cleared while it contributes to the rest of the trays becoming backed up... you're just an a-hole.

Feel better now, anat0I? :)

I was away longer than 19 weeks and didn’t even think about contacting Centrelink as I do not receive a pension or any government income.. That I understand. Never even thought about the Seniors Health Card!. I mean, what difference does it make if I am in Australia or not?

@ellen10‘s experience does show that our movements are monitored between departments though!
The only thing I have is the seniors HCC and they cancelled that and that also meant I lost the electricity rebate and had to apply again

OPh that reminds me, people who place their supermarket shopping basket in the stack leaving the handles up!

move away from the escalator
not only that! More importantly, when on escalator always STAY LEFT and leave right side free for other to pass. Escalator is not the place to relax a bit and chat to your mate, it is part city public transport and must be used efficiently.

Certainly not!
Just empathising and hoping that you felt better for getting all those gripes off your chest.:)🙏
Apologies if it didn't come across that way.
My little local shopping village has one escalator. People step off the bottom and start chatting with their friends who happen to be walking past. I don't intend to be a statistic so when I am about 4m away I yell out "Get out of the way!" or words to that effect.

That's confusing because that's not consistent around the world. I just watch what the people ahead of me are doing but sadly many just don't give a jot and do what they want, or else are completely oblivious to their surroundings.

'Which side of the foot-traffic road' can get a bit fraught. Recent cruise on Ponant - 40% 'LHD' nationalities, the rest RHD nationalities. Much side-stepping when the two meet in a (narrow) corridor.

good point, but if its not confusing to change from right to left hand driving depending on the country you currently in, it should be easy on escalator too.
Left hand driving in Australia = left side on escalators, footpath's, trails, corridors etc.
many just completely oblivious to their surroundings.
That is the main issue! agree

You will have problems in the UK.
Conventions are locally specific.
(Assuming conventions are followed - which are much more observed in th UK)

In Australia, it’s keep to the left. I observe local customs in other countries suck as UK and Japan. Some escalators even have signs to stand on the right to let others pass.

Like @Jenya , what cheeesme off the most is people not keeping to the left when walking in Australia. I get stroppy and will even stop so the oncoming person has to move! It’s not difficult, people. (On American run cruise ships, I walk on the right.)
I do same and have even mastered the sigh and shoulder droop when you force them into eye contact. I believe it is my mission to teach the rest of Australia to think.
Best of all though is my response to eyes-down phone users who are on a collision course. I wait until about 1.5 steps away and then yell out "LOOK OUT!" You should see them mostly jump out of their skin.

I just wait until they walk into me
