What cheeses me off

WCMO is awards programs with really short redemption window.

I bought some Peter Alexander PJs direct from PA for myself and as xmas presents in black friday sales and joined their free rewards program. Earned a voucher just got email saying i only have 2 weeks left to use it. Now I definitely wont be needing any new PJs before winter as I am all set for summer, surely 12 months would be a more reasonable period?

After all PJs arent something you need to buy every 60 days.

I agree!
I bought myself a new Dyson vacuum cleaner for Christmas and was given a 10% off voucher for my first purchase. The trouble was, it didn't come through until after I'd paid and it's only valid for 14 days!

I've noticed Harvey Norman advertises these short duration vouchers all the time. So you have to go back and probably spend more money just to use the vouchers. I thought vouchers had a minimum 3 year expiry.

Yes it's really a ripoff. "bait and switch" type event. Should be illegal.

No cheeses me off, but makes we wonder. Small businesses like tradies, handymen etc not billing anywhere near promptly for work done.

I told my plumber in mid November that I'd like to settle for work he just did before December, when I was going away. Just sent him a reminder.

Ditto guy who trimmed hedge and did lawn while I was away.

My gym PT doesn't bill me, I have to remember to pay them.

For me in QLD GC tradees don't event turn up to actual work on multiple occasions, event after they already spent time on site to scope the job and promised to provide a quote - just never come back.

I got a message from MyGov to check my account. Logged in and there was a message, with a reference code 19. So had to download the PDF.

It said that because I was overseas for more than 19 weeks my Seniors Health Care card was cancelled. I only applied for this back in July.
We left for overseas on 27th August and returned 6th October. But their records stated that I had not returned. Could have phoned them but the wait time was huge. We go away up the coast tomorrow for two weeks, so I needed to get it sorted.
So had to go out in the heat to the local Centrelink office a few suburbs away.

Well that was some interesting people watching, whilst I waited 2 hours to be seen.

The Centrelink lady initially said I would have to contact their overseas department and it will take a few weeks. But I said I am clearly here in Australia and have used my medicare card since returning. She said it must not have registered when I arrived back in Australia through immigration. I'm not sure how that happened.

She seemed doubtful that she could fix it at her level. Fortunately I had brought my trusty travel folder with all my bookings and flight schedules from my TA. But the most important item that I had kept was my boarding pass for my flight home to Sydney, that got me over the line.

So she started tapping away at the computer, consulted another woman a couple of times and finally my Seniors Health Care card was restored.

My husband always stirs me for keeping all my travel paperwork, but luckily I had, especially my printed boarding pass.

I actually was away for more than 19 weeks and just did it all on myGov

Was reading a post on facepalm (posted early this morning) complaining about closure of national parks in Victoria today and how this was an unfair "climate lockdown" of Victoria. Then someone else complaining about excessive control by the government. FFS these people have no consideration for what volunteer firefighters go through, but I'm sure expect them to come and save them each and every time,

Sorry, am I misreading this? People aren't actually complaining about national parks in Victoria being closed due to the extreme heat ?
I have misread that haven't I ?

Unfortunately you haven't misread it. Though, nice that the overwhelming weight of comments were either attacking or mocking the post.

I was away longer than 19 weeks and didn’t even think about contacting Centrelink as I do not receive a pension or any government income.. That I understand. Never even thought about the Seniors Health Card!. I mean, what difference does it make if I am in Australia or not?

@ellen10‘s experience does show that our movements are monitored between departments though!
