The 17 ads that SQ show before your movie/tv show of choice actually begins. Ok not quite 17 but seemed very excessive when I went to watch something this morning.

When I manage to give myself a headache trying to work out what additional addons for travel insurance and whether to book flights/accommodations that have some form of cancellation return or take the non refundable
Same here. But travel insurance doesn’t normally cover ‘cancel for any reason’ (change of mind), or might limit cancellation cover for pre-existing events (elderly family member getting sick for example).

So if my plans could possibly change - voluntarily - I tend to book hotels and flights that are refundable… only locking in non-ref when it would truly be something covered by insurance.

No , it was not illegal and I'm not the morality police👍
If you were in Wellington Park (ie slopes of Mt Wellington), then:

All flora within Wellington Park is protected. Permits are required to collect or remove any vegetation.

But I have a major confession. I did a unit of 'Field Botany' when I was at undergraduate uni. It involved visiting Mt Field National Park for 3 days, led by the Professor of Botany Bill Jackson - a legendary chap. You had to assemble and the course was marked on a pressed plant collection, properly labelled and classified.

Imagine the Prof pointing out a species, then 10 students descending on it, cutting/snapping bits off for their collection 😂 Rinse, repeat, many times. Things were different then ...

Linux Mint is fantastic!

Thanks, I will try that.

I'm beginning to suspect that the issues regarding crazy i/o is due to one drive doing stuff in the background.

I need to get rid of it permanently.....

It is safe to say that the treatment of wildflowers has changed a little over the years. If you have a look at this 'historical' video from W.A shot in the early 1950's you will see that organised bus tours to see the wildflowers were more like the actions of a horde of locusts stripping the land. The relevant piece is from minute 3:22 to 6:22. The shots of the inside of the bus at around minute 6:10 are particularly amazing to 'modern eyes'.

I think I am going down this path. Pay the extra few thousand and of course travel insurance. Our household has had a few unexpected issues over the last few years .
Thanks for that

It's a wonder plant species survived after bus trips like that! I always thought that people are not allowed to pick wildflower/native flora in Australia. Anywhere! Everywhere! That has been my understanding since I was a child.

… that is probably because our parents drilled into us whilst on various trips to never do so … my dad was always respectful and reverential about ‘nature’ (always said with gravitas)
