What cheeses me off

For most friends it is almost 100% an even split with the boys paying.
In large mixed groups which often include some of swmbo's widowed lady friends , I generously allow swmbo to sort it out….

Given up on dividing bills at the table. Given I like wine (an not other peoples' choices!), I pay the full bill, discount the wine portions for some them who don't drinkl, divide the rest and email them bills which are paid by bank transfer. (Also means I get the Amex points. :) )
We used to divide the bill evenly but as we drove to restaurant we didn't drink much and not expensive reds. We decided it simply wasn't fair so we started taking Ubers and joined in on the fun.

I have had friends in the past who would always want to split the bill when they had been drinking, but always itemise it when they hadn't. That got right up my nose and I would call them out on it.

I generally prefer to itemise since if I eat and drink more, I pay more and I'm OK with that and vice-versa.

We've had everything in a joint account since we first bought a house together, (followed by first child a month later) Wouldn't occur to us to do anything else.
We have joint accounts but also each have a 'slush' fund/own credit card and always have had. It has always been important to have some own money and as a friend of mine says, escape money if needed.
The daughter of another friend separated from her long term partner (3 small children) - bank account was in his name with a secondary card for her. He cleaned it out (supposedly to stop her from doing it). She had a small account from when she was a child and quickly managed to get her salary paid into that account.

@TheRealTMA - you raise a sub-fromage in your point. Payment when going out to dinner as a group.🤔
At our age - when husband and I go to restaurants as a group its its family/friends (not acquaintances)
Bill = even split with all pax
I dont drink but thats irrelevant to me in the scheme of things
When its not friends ie people we may have met travelling we discuss upfront how it will be split.
Given we hate all that ‘I did not have the garlic bread’ nonsense we split the food and we may say drinks split between thise who drink alcohol. I stick to water.
WCMO - but only happens when not friends is
- minutiae splitting of items
- forgotten wallets (hence the pre-meal discussion)
- everyone puts in cash (and to cover the tip ) but only amount on bill is paid on the credit card of someone who makes a profit

… first world problems…
We usually go to restaurants that serve meals that are shared and have BYO. We order at least one dish that is a favourite of each person there on the night.

The drinkers buy and bring their own booze of whatever quality or volume they desire.

The food bill gets divided equally regardless of amount consumed by each person.

No arguments over tee-totallers or designated drivers not drinking and having to pay.

Rail replacement buses. Compounded by drivers who just go the way they know (or allowed to go on?). Had do backtrack to join the freeway, but consulting Google maps or wayze would have shown huge delays. Option 1 1:50, option 2 2:07 (which woulld have an allowed for some plane spotting going right past MEL 🤣 ). option chosen 2:25. Train would have been 1:36.

Lynda could not have lived in my world.
When we met Swmbo had a good job and a house , I had negative net worth.
First child , swmbo quit work and has never worked (outside) since.
Otoh, I managed to from $-0 to retired in 25 years , in between building a big house and privately educating my kids
Swmbo did a magnificent job of raising the kids, managing the house and sorting personal finances
So where did she get HER MONEY ?
She doesn't have any ..it is all OURS
She can spend whatever she wants whenever she wants.. always been the same..
A joint account for everything completely removes questions about who contributed what and when ; we were and remain , a team.

Well done. WE don’t have money either. It’s all OURS:) If I fly F then we both do or whatever class WE can afford.

Well we live in the same world, I just choose to support myself and not rely on someone else to meet my financial needs.

Never had any interest in kids, but had I had them i certainly wouldn't have given up my career and income stream. I know many successful women who have kids and a career and still out earn their partners.

Which is a nightmare if the relationship breaks up, and you are trying to divide assets or one person withdraws everything leaving the other with nothing. Way too risky IMO.

Noting that 30% (and growing) of marriages end in divorce and that doesn't cover break-ups for those who are not married, nor those in abusive marriages where one partner controls the money as a form of financial abuse. Having no independent income or assets makes it harder to leave the abuser. I would never advise any women to give up her financial freedom, very slippery slope.

YMMV.

Wcmo is when my son isn't impressed about how incredible our quarterly electricity bill is !!!
He promptly said he has no idea what the power bill is in his house *grump grump *
Having the air conditioning at 25 and three heavy duty dysons fans going on to keep husband cool finally seems to be a good spot with power usage
