What cheeses me off

Brother and SIL will be catching train from Lyon to Avignon tomorrow. Currently in Lyon. You might end up seeing them in Lyon today, Monday. They have tickets so trust they hold?
Yesterday was the last day of a 4 day weekend for the Assension Day holiday. Leaving Lyon towards Avignon was easy it was the coming back that was the problem.

I assume that it was the old public transport thinking that it was a Sunday so we will run Sunday services even though we know pax numbers will be through the roof due to people coming home.

OK I'm having a bad day - delivered a few training sessions today. One person sniffed very loudly throughout the session and left her snotty tissue on the desk. I wouldn't go near her and just want to go home and have a shower and gargle betadine. Thankfully lots of hand sanitiser around

Interesting to hear how performance turned out compared to reference checks? Immediate previous manager and at least one other.

Although… not uncommon to get a good reference from a previous manager looking to offload a staff member 😝
This particular employee came highly recommended and I can confirm that they have the right skills and experience to do that job. The issue really is reliability. We were unable to rely on this employee on more than a handful occasions. And they have been incommunicado for the past 6 days or so. No responses to phone calls or texts. Sometimes you do see a reply for a text that, they are not able to talk and will call you tomorrow and guess what, that tomorrow hasn't happened yet!

Anyways, my business partner and I are thinking we should go back to market, try and get someone to come into one of our offices full-time to do this work.

I've just started a new job after about six months off. Probably only really ramped up the applications in earnest within the previous six weeks, to be honest.

You are incredibly generous (whether that is a personal trait / gesture or one mandated by your company / section of your company).

Something that was annoying was when employers did not get back on an application at all. Many of them were lodged through bespoke online portals, so obviously they have proper systems (probably with alerts etc. and dashboards) to see pending applications and statuses. But no, the application status never changed from "submitted" or similar.

Reading a job ad and seeing something like, "Only successfully shortlisted applicants will be contacted", or "If you do not hear from us within six weeks, you may assume you have been unsuccessful", is pretty disheartening. If I'm not successful, so be it - even an automated / bulk mailed message to that effect would suffice.

I realise that when you are applying to work for an organisation, that organisation owes you realistically nothing (except in rare cases where you actually have highly competitive services to offer). After all, they are looking for any reason to make their job easier to cut down the list of applicants to a shortlist; make a complaint and one may not just be off the list, but could be blackballed around town, too. Combined with the fact that it's incredibly much more time efficient, I get why organisations don't feel obliged at all to give any sort of response to applications or EOIs. As an honest applicant who puts in an honest application, it still hurts a bit, though.
I strongly believe that everyone should be updated regardless of the outcome of their job application. These are people, who have time time out of their day, to read your job ad, formulate a response to submit their application. The least employers could do is, send out responses or call (I call them) to each applicant and explain why they have been unsuccessful. Sometimes, we find that some applicants could be suitable for a different role and we offer them an opportunity to interview for the other role, as an alternative. Some take up on this offer, some choose to skip (entirely up to them).

Knowing @Ade that's how he operates his small company.
Aww! Thank you for your kind words @kookaburra75 :)

I fully agree, and as an employer I have always provided feedback. If you're using a platform like Seek, it is really easy to do, and there's no excuse not to.
Exactly. There are systems in place to help you do that with greater ease. Use the systems to do the leg work for you.

Same type of bottles in Germany and France. I have spilled nearly as much down my front as down my throat.
It's mandated in the EU, most factories produce for the UK and EU hence UK also has the same as it is too costly to do both.

That sounds to me like either addiction related disappearances or similar mental health related concerns.

And the tow truck came to pickup the written off Golf which still runs #WCMO
As parts it is worth a lot more than the agreed value #WCMO
MstrQS2 cleaned out all his belongings out of the car but forgets to take the eTag out of the car #WCMO
So rather than the rigmarole of trying to get it back from the car yard in Milperra, I made a trip to the RTA/RMS to cancel the eTag as "lost" #WCMO

Generally if I don't hear anything re an application within a few days then I assume it is not going anywhere. But agree radio silence is so frustrating when you have made an effort for a tailored application; and being ghosted after an interview is completely unacceptable.

Just this week I received two rejections for jobs applied for last December. One I had attended an interview, they said their funding had fallen through but did they really expect Id wait around 6 months? The other was a generic rejection, again Id already written them off.

On the other side of the coin, I'm recruiting at the moment and have received in excess of 200 applications for 1 role so calling everyone is not feasible as I have my actual job to do too.

I did however instruct HR to send an email to everyone we didn't short list advising they were unsuccessful the day after applications closed as I think it's only fair to let applicants know asap.

That said for every applicant that spent time writing a cover letter to highlight relevant experience and demonstrate they understood the role, there were like 20+ who just sent a generic resume, 90% of those with no relevant experience or wanting 100% remote when ad said 2 days in office or needing sponsorship when advert said must have working rights.

I've had HR do screening calls for round 1 short list, and let them know same day whether they will be offered a interview or not.

I will only provide further feedback back to anyone we actually interview.

That sounds to me like either addiction related disappearances or similar mental health related concerns

Possibly or could also be the case of them having more than one remote job, have come across this recently, meaning they aren't doing their best for anyone as are over committed.

I'm still waiting to hear back about a job that I did two interviews for back in 2014 🤷‍♀️
