1. Arman Jordan
2. Paris France
3. New York New York
4. Fort Worth Texas
5. Modena Italy

3. Bin Tan Island Indonesia

I'll just go for one of each for now

Most friendly

Sam Neua, Laos

Least friendly

Paris, France

Sam Neua was one of the most laid back places I've been, and even when nothing really went right the warmth of the locals made it bearable, especially a 4 hr wait in the relative cold at a tiny Songthaew station!

Ah you have no idea how much I have missed the best and worst threads around here:

Best:
Rarotonga, Cook Islands

Worst:
Paris, France

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That's interesting, thanks for sharing! Ill be in both Amman and Cairo shortly. Any reason Amman rated so well and Cairo so poorly? (Excluding current issues of course. Hasn't scared me off yet!)

Hah, the very first thing I thought when I saw the originating post was there would be Paris haters on here before long! Clearly experiences differ.

Agree, the Cook Islands is certainly a very friendly place.

I don't know if I have a best and worst for friendliness, given I tend to make friends very easily and quickly, and things which bother others doesn't tend to bother me.
I can certainly think of places I'm been where a couple of the locals have been unfriendly (Adelaide I'm looking at you), but I wouldn't be calling anywhere I've been to unfriendly (yet).

6. Hamburg Germany

Really? I thought Hamburg was pretty friendly. Girls kept coming up to me wanting to chat...

In all seriousness though, I actually did find it pretty friendly.

Zurich not particularly friendly.
Rarotonga and Seattle certainly were.

Best: Western Samoa followed closely by Rarotonga.

Worst: Paris followed closely by Berlin.

Most friendly
Munich, Siem Reap, Wellington

Least friendly
Fortunately I'm yet to visit a city which I found so unfriendly that I wouldn't return, but if I had to pick one, probably Rome

Most friendly: anywhere in Germany; Istanbul, Turkey and almost everywhere in Philippines' Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (exception: the parts of Mindanao in the south where it's most unwise to venture - perhaps 30 per cent of Mindanao by area)

Least friendly: mainland China (especially Beijing: Shanghai is an exception) and Paris, France but not the rest of the latter country which is reasonably friendly

Overall so far, Paris seems to be 'winning' the dubious honour of being perceived as the least friendly city

Friendly: Siem Reap, Copenhagen, Kyoto, Banff.

Unfriendly: Johannesburg, Paris, Cairo, Riyadh (in spades)

Most friendly:

Dublin, and the rest of Ireland for that matter.

Most unfriendly:

Rome, but only comparatively. Rude (and thieving) taxi drivers and waiters did not ruin our time in Italy.

Most friendly - Kyoto, a young couple let me use their mobile phone when we were running late for a rendezvous ! Closely followed by Athens - lots of fun loving people there happy to welcome you to their country. Least friendly country Morocco - scammers at every opportunity!

More friendly:
Mykonos (if it counts as a city?)
Kyoto
Berlin
Cairns
Bangkok

Less friendly:
Sydney (and I say that as a resident)
Paris (sorry!)
Vienna
Rome
Hong Kong

Despite this list I'm not more or less likely to visit a place based on the friendliness of its people.

Spot on. Paris is still the most beautiful city I've visited, despite it's reputation for rudeness. "Friendliness" is a very minor consideration.

A few I've found the locals friendly:
Bangkok, Seattle, Boston, Denver, Rapid City, Sapporo and Hong Kong.

And those where I've felt some brusqueness:
Singapore, Taipei, New York (but I love it), Las Vegas and Manila.
