What are your pet annoyances on Qantas?

1. Lack of availability of award seats.
2. Inability to receive immediate confirmation for upgrade bookings.
3. Absolutely unjustifiable price gouging in the form of taxes and charges. These should reflect actual taxes and direct third party charges at cost price only.
4. Inability to exclude Jetstar sectors when booking online.
5. Inability to exclude optional economy sectors when booking online.
6. Inability to properly compare available fares on different dates online because of (4) and (5).
7. Half-hearted attitude to One World alliance since the Emirates deal.
8. The complex, illogical, misleading and unfair earning system masquerading as "simpler and fairer".
9. Specific unfairness such as PER-ADL being in a lower earning category for points & SCs than PER-MEL/SYD/BNE but in the same redemption category & costing approximately the same in cash fares.
10. Use of 737s on medium to long haul flights (such as PER-SIN).
11. Serving Australian sparkling wine in lieu of champagne, even in domestic and international business lounges, and in business class on-board.
12. Inability to use points for upgrades on EK codeshares even when they're the only option available (eg PER-DXB).

It's almost as if...... the longer the list... the more loyal some people become.

My pet peeve w.r.t. Qantas would have to be the damn Android app. For me, it almost always locks up when launched. I'd be lucky if it worked properly maybe once or twice a month. Reading the app feedback suggests that I'm not alone.

And the mobile site is totally broken for anything except booking flights.

I haven't flown a single flight on QF metal this membership year.
Although there are other reasons for that.

Obsolescent information systems. I cancelled a booking 5 business days ago, still haven't received the voucher.

I would call them and try to get them to process it manually.

By the way the adjective is just "obsolete".

Priority boarding that doesn't actually happen. It's not the biggest issue in the world, but it peeves me that they advertise the feature of high status yet make no attempt to enforce the rules (like every other airline does!)

Why do I earn half the points on PER-ADL that I do on PER-MEL when the flight time difference is negligible?

Same goes for SC's?

Yet the cost in points for an upgrade between PER-ADL and PER-MEL is the same!

When you're flying airlines that get it right every time, you'll understand that it is a big deal. Especially for revenue first class passengers where the experience should be as close to a private jet as possible. It's about saving time, efficiency and speed. But, does QF really need to fix priority boarding on BNE/SYD/MEL bus rides?

I agree with a few other points made here, but for me - their booking system leaves quite a bit to be desired. Limitations on the use of gift vouchers are annoying. Having to wait several days, or sometimes even phone up, when you haven't been properly ticketed is annoying. The Android app has some great ideas but needs better execution.

Excessive "taxes and surcharges"

Same date of travel:

Yes ........

There are over 3800 posts on the subject of priority boarding + domestic + Qantas but as the honey badger don't care, its not guaranteed on all services anyhow. ( or any service for that matter).

Oh I care a little after a long day tired I am not looking to stand in queues my high heels start aching all too much :D :D

+1 to excessive fees. Soon the masses may realise other options are out there - $65 AA vs $600 QF? I know where I'm going ...

But when Qantas markets their excessive fees as 'carrier imposed charges' the 'masses' probably think all carriers charge the same fees.

Now a comment about holding your feet. I recall an air crash show many years ago that clearly outlined why it is very important to make sure your feet do not go under the seat in front if you don't want to die. Might think it is gratuitous, but it is important to make sure people remember to hold their legs.

My peeve - The snack!

That comment - and the next from MEL_Traveller - would be fair enough - EXCEPT THAT the safety video explicitly states that this procedure is for people who have no seat in front of them!

For those people who DO have a seat in front of them, the instructions are to have their hands very far away from their feet.

So someone must be wrong here. The wrongest is the person who thinks PAX can hold on to their feet and "stop them from sliding forward" should the plane hit the ground at X hundred km/h.

I always thought the "grab your ankles" thing was to try to ensure you are doubled over as far as possible, to try to prevent submarining under the lap belt, or reducing the impact of your face onto your knees in the event of a survivable crash? Obviously if you hit the ground at several hundred KM/H it also doubles as enabling you to kiss your cough goodbye....

If you have a look at the safety briefing card you'll probably see the legs are tucked backwards, slightly under the seat. This would apply even if you are using the brace position by resting you head on the seat in front.

No doubt it has been tested, and adopting the recommended position is probably safer than not.
