Greetings

As a relative newbie I have been thrilled with the level of assistance provided at AFF in our quest for 'our trip of a lifetime' in J as detailed here - http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-getting-to-vancouver-56853-2.html#post968207

Our only non-J leg is JFK>LHR on Sept 25 and we really dont want to do the extra reshuffling through BCN just to get J a suggested earlier. Our dates are pretty much locked in now with accomodation etc with other people.

My main questions are: (and excuse my ignorance..I have trolled a fair bit but get confused re the whole upgrade situation)

1. What is the likelihood of at least 1 J reward seat coming up between now and Sept 25 on BA JFK>LHR? I'm happy to check in every day to see if avaialable.

2. Can you use points to do an upgrade for that leg from PE to First? if so how many points needed? ("Tell him... he's dreaming, son":p)

3. Is PE on a BA 747 really all that far 'below' J class - for us its all 'new' travelling outside of cattle class so maybe we're just being greedy trying to get maximum value out of our 20 years of accumulated QFF points. However we do have another leg thru to Mumbai pretty much straight after so would be nice to be 'up' for that daytime leg.

I'm interested to hear anyone's ideas and appreciate your time and patience as always.

cheers

1. Not sure.

2. PE to F is not possible. You can only go up one class with a points upgrade.

3. WT+ is a slightly larger Y seat, J is lie flat. If this is really a "once in a lifetime" trip, I'd be trying for J.

Good luck on your quest - and I'm sure you were only a 'trawler' not a troll. :D

Hi Leppo,

1. The BAEC FT Board has various historic posts talking about U inventory opening up quite close to flight times. I'd suggest asking same again there.

2. You cannot upgrade using QFF points (at ALL) on BA. If you have an existing BA PE booking, I'd hold that until - and unless - J Award becomes available. Only you can decide on the worth of cancellation fees etc.

3. Again, might be worth asking specific of the BA experts, especially the merits of J pre-departure dining etc.

Regards,

BD

Do you have enough points for F?
Searching on aa.com there are no J awards on BA or AA flights that day but wide availability of sAAver fares in F.
The 3 BA flights JFK-LHR have at least 2 as does the BA flight from EWR.
There is one J sAAver award on the 25th but that is via MIA on AA.
So seems like just the wrong day.

You can, however, of cash upgrades at the airport on BA. From Y to Y+, Y to J and J to F.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

3. Is PE on a BA 747 really all that far 'below' J class

When it comes to BA's version of PE, if you think "just below J" you will be disappointed. If you think "Y with a bit more more leg room" you may be satisfied.

On such a BA 747 I once got 'upgraded' from an exit row in Y to a window seat in PE, without asking. When I found out (in the lounge) I asked for my exit row back. They wouldn't give it to me. :(

thanks BD ..so many other sites, links and forums to check out..lucky I have time on my side!

thanks Tom..we are definitely trying for J - the whole trip was supposedly in business but just missed out on that one leg getting 2 J seats. still pretty good for 280 000 points

thanks for the tip timster - Ill check out the best seats in PE then! cheers
